Engine Identification

Engine is identified by the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). VIN is stamped on metal tab attached to instrument panel near windshield on driver's side of vehicle and is visible from outside. VIN number is also stamped on Safety Certification Decal, mounted on left front door lock face panel and on Engine Identification Label mounted on valve cover.
The VIN number contains 17 characters. The eighth character identifies engine type, and the tenth character identifies model year. The 5.OL HO (High Output) engine is available in Cougar, Mustang and Thunderbird.
