Fuel Economy Test

  1. Place ignition switch in "ACC" position. Press "8 F/ECON" button. Select miles mode if necessary. If display reads "X" (top line), "AV MPG" (bottom line), go to next step. If not, replace message center.
    NOTE: The "X" in step 1) may represent any number.
  2. Hoist rear wheels of vehicle off floor. Run engine with transmission in "DRIVE" position for 20 seconds at 25 MPH. Press "RESET" button. Press "7 AV SPD" button. If speedometer and message center display within 2 miles of each other, go to next step. If not, perform AVERAGE SPEED TEST.
  3. Press "1 CLOCK " and "MILES km" buttons simultaneously to enter self-test. Press "2 ALARM" button to place message center in flow test mode. Display should read "XX FLOW 2". Raise engine speed to 1600 RPM and hold. If "XX" increases in value as engine is running, fuel economy function is okay. If not, go to next step.
  4. For CFI Vehicles Only Check wiring harness from Electronic Engine Control (EEC) connector (Pin No. 34) to message center connector (Pin No. 10) for shorts to ground or open circuits. If wiring is okay, replace EEC processor. If not, repair wiring as required.
