Average Speed Test

  1. Place ignition key in "ACC" position. Press "7 AV SPD" button. If message center displays "XXX.X" (top line), "AV MPG" (bottom line), go to next step. If not, replace message center.
    NOTE: The "X" in step 1) may represent any number.
  2. Hoist rear wheels of vehicle off floor. Run engine with transmission in "DRIVE" position for 20 seconds at 25 MPH. Press "RESET" button. Press "7 AV SPD" button. If speedometer and message center display within 2 miles of each other, message center is okay. If not, go to next step.
  3. Press "1 CLOCK" and "MILES km" buttons simultaneously to enter self-test. Press "4 ETA" button to place message center in distance test mode. Run engine with transmission in "DRIVE" for 20 seconds at 30 MPH. If message center displays a number that increases approximately every second, replace message center. If not, go to next step.
  4. Check for continuity and short circuits in Dk. Green/White wire (Pin No. 12 ) of message center control to instrument cluster (Pin No. 12). If wiring is okay, replace message center (assuming instrument cluster is operating correctly). If not, repair wiring as required.
