Fuel Gauge Does Not Display "E" When Fuel Tank Is Empty Or "F" When Fuel Tank Is Full
- Disconnect harness 14405/14401 connector, under instrument panel, at fuse block. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between Yellow/White wire (Pin No. 7) and instrument cluster ground. Reading should be less than 20 ohms with tank empty and 143-161 ohms with tank full. If reading is okay, replace EIM. If not, go to next step.
- Lower fuel tank to access fuel gauge sending unit. Remove sending unit. Measure sending unit resistance with arm at empty stop. Reading should be 10-18 ohms. Measure resistance with arm at full stop. Reading should be 154-166 ohms. If readings are okay, inspect fuel tank for distortion and/or free movement of sender arm in tank. Service or replace as necessary. If readings are not okay, replace sending unit.
