Electronic Instrument Cluster (Continental & Mark VII)
- Check for open in EIM circuit. Disconnect 14405/14401 harness connector at fuse holder and short terminal 7 to ground (Yellow/White; on mating 14401 harness connector). Check display. If "CO" is displayed, remove jumper short and proceed to step 2). If "CS" is displayed, remove jumper short and proceed to step 4).
- Check for open in 14401 circuit. Disconnect and remove EIM. Check continuity between pin 11 of EIC connector and pin 7 of 14405 connector. If okay, proceed to step 3). If not okay, service as required for open circuit.
- Check fuel sensor ground. Reconnect 14405 connector and EIM connector. Check fuel sender ground wire for good connection. Check continuity between pin 14 of EIM ground and fuel sender ground. If okay, replace EIM. If not okay, service ground circuit as required.
- Check fuel sending wire. Reconnect 14405 connector. Lower fuel tank to access fuel sender connector. Short fuel sender harness connector with jumper wire. Turn ignition to "RUN" or "ACC". If "CO" is displayed, service fuel sender wiring for open in circuit. If "CS" is displayed, proceed to step 5).
- Check fuel sender. Turn ignition switch to "OFF". Measure resistance of fuel sender at sender terminals. Resistance should be between 13 and 166 ohms. If resistance is within limits, inspect fuel sender wiring connector female terminals for flash or loose fit and service as required. If resistance is not within limits, replace sender unit.
