Speedometer Reads "0" With Vehicle In Motion
- Turn ignition switch to "RUN" or "ACC" and verify speedometer read out sequence. Sequence should display "188", "Blank" and "0" in order. If sequence okay, proceed to step 2). If not okay, replace EIM.
- Check odometer for forward advance when driven. If okay, replace EIM. If not okay, proceed to step 3).
- Check connections between 14401 harness and 14290 harness, and between 14290 harness and 7C078 transmission harness (near transmission dipstick). Measure resistance between circuit 359 (Black/White) in 14401 to 14290 connector and circuit 150 (Drk. Green/White) in 14290 to 7C078 connector. Resistance should be 160-230 ohms. If reading okay, proceed to step 6). If not okay, proceed to step 4).
- Check connector at speedometer sensor on transmission. If connection and connector okay, proceed to step 5). If not okay, service connector and wiring as necessary. Recheck speedometer operation.
- Check resistance at speedometer sensor. Resistance should be 200-300 ohms. If okay, proceed to step 6). If not okay, replace speedometer sensor. Recheck speedometer operation.
- Disconnect speedometer sensor from transmission. Check condition of driven gear teeth and retainer clip. If okay, proceed to step 7). If not okay, replace gear and/or clip as necessary.
- Check condition of drive gear on transmission output shaft. If okay, proceed to step 8). If not okay, service transmission drive gear as necessary.
- Test drive vehicle and check operation of speed control. If okay, proceed to step 9). If not okay, check wiring to speed control to verify correct location of circuits 359 (Black and White) and 150 (Drk. Green and White) in connectors. Service or replace as necessary.
- Test drive vehicle and check operation of Message Center Elapsed Mileage display. If okay, proceed to step 10). If not okay, check wiring to Message Center to verify correct location of circuits 359 and 150 in Message Center connector. Service as necessary.
- Check connectors to EIM. Check resistance between pins 12 and 13 of EIM connector. Resistance should be 160-230 ohms. If okay, replace EIM. If not okay, service wiring, speed control or Message Center as necessary.
