Inaccurate Fuel Indication

CAUTION: Ignition switch must be "OFF" when connecting or disconnecting a resistor at 14401 harness.
  1. Disconnect 14401/14405 connector (under instrument panel). Connect a 47 ohm resistor between pin 7 (Yellow/White) of 14401 connector and ground. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" or "ACC". Fuel gauge display should read 5-6 gallons or 19-22 liters. If okay, turn ignition switch to "OFF" and proceed to step 2). If not okay, proceed to step 3).
  2. Connect a 100 ohm resistor between pin 7 of 14401 connector and ground. Turn ignition to "RUN" or "ACC". Fuel gauge display should read 14-15 gallons or 53-56 liters. If okay, proceed to step 4). If not okay, proceed to step 3).
  3. Disconnect EIM connector. Measure resistance of circuit 29 (Yellow/White) between EIM connector and 47 ohm and 100 ohm resistors connected to 14401 connector. Ohmmeter should read 47 ohms and 100 ohms respectively. If reading is okay, replace EIM. If not okay, service circuit 29 as necessary.
  4. Lower fuel tank to access fuel sender. Jumper sender connector to ground and measure resistance between 14405 connector and ground. If resistance is 0-1 ohm, proceed to step 5). If resistance is greater than 1 ohm, service circuit 29 as necessary.
  5. Check fuel sender for binding, sticking or other damage. If sender okay, proceed to step 6). If not okay, service or replace sender as necessary.
  6. Check fuel tank for dents, bulges or other damage. If damaged, repair or replace tank as necessary.
