Fuel Gauge Does Not Display "E" When Fuel Tank Empty Or "F" When Fuel Tank Full

  1. Check fuel sender. Disconnect 14401 connector from 14405 connector. Measure resistance between terminal 7 (circuit 29) of 14401 connector and the electronic instrument cluster ground. Resistance should be less than 20 ohms with tank empty and 143-161 ohms with tank full. If resistance reads okay, replace EIM. If resistance reading not okay, proceed to step 2).
  2. Check fuel sender. Lower fuel tank to access fuel sender. Remove sender unit. Measure resistance with sender at "EMPTY" stop. Resistance reading should be 10 to 18 ohms. Measure resistance with sender at "FULL" stop. Resistance reading should be 154 to 166 ohms. If resistance reads okay, inspect fuel tank for distortion and/or free movement of sender in tank. Service or replace as necessary. If resistance reading not okay, replace fuel sender.
