Fuel Display Blank

  1. Check illumination of other displays. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" or "ACC". Check all EIM displays for illumination. If other displays are lit, replace EIM. If other displays not lit, proceed to step 2).
  2. Check illumination of message center. If message center is lit, proceed to step 8). If not lit, proceed to step 3).
  3. Check fuse No. 16 of electronic cluster. If fuse okay, proceed to step 7). If fuse blown, proceed to step 4).
  4. Check for short, circuit 797. Before replacing fuse, turn ignition switch to "OFF" and disconnect battery ground cable. Connect ohmmeter from circuit 797 (Lt. Green/Purple) to ground. Check for short circuit. If short exists, service circuit 797 for short circuit. If no short, replace fuse.
  5. Measure voltage, circuit 295. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" or "ACC" and measure voltage at pin 18 of EIC. Voltage should be equal to battery voltage (10V minimum). If voltage okay, proceed to step 8). If voltage not okay, proceed to step 6).
  6. Measure voltage, circuit 293. Turn ignition to "RUN" or "ACC" and measure voltage at pin 6 of interior lamp relay. Voltage should be equal to battery voltage (10V minimum). If voltage reads okay, service interior lamp relay. If voltage not okay, service circuits 293 and 297 to fuse 17, fuse 17 to ignition switch, and ignition switch to battery for open in circuit.
  7. Measure voltage, circuit 797. Measure voltage at pin 17 of EIC. Voltage should be equal to battery voltage (10V minimum).
  8. Check electronic cluster ground connection. Check for secure connection of electronic cluster ground terminal located on shake brace beneath instrument panel. If ground connection okay, proceed to step 9). If ground not okay, service as required.
  9. Check EIM connector. If connection is okay, proceed to step 10). If connection not okay, secure connector to EIM.
  10. Measure voltage between ground and circuit 797 on EIM connector. Remove electronic cluster (EIC/EIM) and disconnect harness connector. Measure voltage between terminal 17 (circuit 797; Lt. Green/Purple) and terminal 13 (circuit 359; Black/White). If reading is greater than 10 volts, proceed to step 11). If reading is less than 10 volts, service circuits 797 and/or 359 (ground) as necessary.
  11. Measure voltage between ground and circuit 295 on EIM connector. Remove electronic cluster (EIC/EIM) and disconnect harness connector. Measure voltage between terminal 18 (circuit 295: Lt. Blue/Pink) and terminal 13 (circuit 359; Black/White). If reading is greater than 10 volts, replace EIM. If reading is less than 10 volts, service circuits 295 (accessory) and/or 359 (ground).
