EIM Will Not Switch Between English & Metric
- Turn ignition switch to "RUN" or "ACC" and depress Miles/Km switch on message center. Message center should switch readout from English to Metric or Metric to English mode. If okay, proceed to step 2). If not okay, proceed to MESSAGE CENTER test procedures in this article.
- Depress Miles/Km switch. ATC (Automatic Temperature Control) display should switch from English to Metric. If display changes modes, proceed to step 3). If not okay, proceed to step 7).
- Remove instrument cluster finish panel and check 18 pin EIM connector for looseness, bent pins, or other damage. If connector okay, proceed to step 4). If not okay, service connector as necessary and repeat step 1).
- With EIM connector connected, measure voltage at pin 10. With message center in Miles mode, voltage should be greater than 3.5 volts. With message center in Km mode, voltage should be less than 1.5 volts. If readings okay, proceed to step 5). If not okay, proceed to step 7).
- With EIM connected, ground pin 10. Display should read in Metric mode. If okay, proceed to step 6). If not okay, replace EIM.
- Disconnect EIM connector and remove pin 10 from connector and tape. Connect EIM. Display should read in English mode. If okay, service connector as necessary. If not okay, replace EIM.
- Inspect circuit 506 between EIM, Message Center, ATC and electronic compass/thermometer for shorts or opens. If okay, system okay. If not okay, service wiring as necessary.
