Removal & Installation (Cougar, Grand Marquis, LTD, Thunderbird, & Town Car)
- Disconnect battery ground. Disconnect speedometer cable from speedometer. Remove instrument cluster. Remove screws attaching dial and lens to cluster and remove dial and lens.
- On LTD and Marquis, remove 4-terminal insulator. On Thunderbird and Cougar, remove switch cap from English/Metric switch. Remove nut holding switch to mask assembly.
- On all models, remove terminal nuts from housing studs on the back of speedometer. Remove screws attaching speedometer to cluster backplate. Remove speedometer assembly. Disassemble electronics from mechanical portion by removing sensor and attaching screws. To install, reverse removal procedure.
