Cannot Start Charging at Scheduled Charging Time [12/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HEALTH CHECK) 
    1. Enter the following menus: Health Check.
    2. Check DTCs.

      Result

    3. Turn the ignition switch off.

    Result:

    GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [12/2023 - ]

  2. CHECK FOR VEHICLE CONTROL HISTORY (ROB) 
    1. Check for Vehicle Control History (RoB).

      Powertrain > Plug-in Control > Utility

  3. SIMULATION TEST (SETTING CHARGE SCHEDULE) 
    NOTE:
    • Make sure to use a known good AC power source.
    • Use the same power voltage that the customer used to plug-in charge the vehicle.

    HINT: 

    When setting a charging start time, make sure to set it for least 5 minutes from the current time.

    Setting the date (year/month/day) and time:

    1. The current date and time displayed on the radio and display receiver assembly is automatically set using GPS. However, if automatic setting of the date and time is set to off in the radio and display receiver assembly settings, the date and time must be set manually.

    Timer charging operates in accordance with the set date (year/month/day) and time of the radio and display receiver assembly.

    1. Enter the following menus: Health Check.
    2. Clear DTCs.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Plug-in Control / Utility / Vehicle Control History (RoB).

      Powertrain > Plug-in Control > Utility

    4. Clear all Vehicle Control History (RoB) items.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Utility / Vehicle Control History (RoB).

    6. Clear all Vehicle Control History (RoB) items.
    7. According to the display on the GTS, read the Data List and confirm that the SOC of the HV battery is less than 70%.

      HINT: 

      If the SOC of the HV battery is 70% or more, drive the vehicle in EV mode to discharge the HV battery until the SOC becomes less than 70%.

    8. Check that the date and time displayed on the radio and display receiver assembly are correct and adjust them if necessary.

      HINT: 

      As timer charging is performed based on the time, year, month and day of the radio and display receiver assembly, make sure that they are set correctly.

    9. Using the radio and display receiver assembly, set a charging start time.
    10. Turn the ignition switch off.
    11. Connect the charging cable (electric vehicle charger cable assembly) and perform AC charging according to the set charging start time.
    12. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    13. Enter the following menus: Health Check.
    14. Check DTCs.
    15. Check for Vehicle Control History (RoB).

    16. Turn the ignition switch off.
    17. Disconnect the charging cable (electric vehicle charger cable assembly).

    CAUSE ANALYSIS (USER / ENVIRONMENT RELATED CAUSE) 

    1. Perform cause analysis in the order of "User" and "Environment" categories as specified in the following tables.
      USER RELATED CAUSE

      Possible Cause Action to be Taken
      Incorrect time, year, month or day set on multi-information display Explain to the customer that the charge schedule operates according to the time and date (day of week) set in the vehicle.
      1. Explain to the customer that as the time and date are set using the GPS function of the radio and display receiver assembly. Therefore, turn the GPS ON.
      Charge schedule setting was wrong Interview customer and provide instruction on usage.

      1. Confirm how to properly use the charge schedule with user's manual or instructions etc.
      Charging was performed at public charging station with charge schedule set Interview customer and provide instruction on usage.

      1. Explain to the customer that the timer charging may be unavailable depending on the specifications of the charging station.
      Charging connector was connected after scheduled charging start time Explain to the customer that the charging connector should be connected before the scheduled charging start time.
      Charging connector was not securely connected to charging inlet Interview customer and provide instruction on usage.

      • Explain to the customer that the charging connector should be fully inserted into the charging inlet.
      • Explain to the customer that if the charging connector is connected when the charge schedule is set, the charging indicator will blink.
      Plug-in charging was attempted when HV supply battery was fully charged
      • Explain to the customer that charging will not be performed if the HV battery is fully charged.
      • Explain to the customer that even if the vehicle is driven after the HV battery is fully charged, charging may not be performed if the SOC of the HV battery has not decreased sufficiently.
      • Explain to the customer that if the charging connector is connected to the vehicle when the traction battery assembly is fully charged, the EV charger lid indicator (EV charger lid indicator assembly) will illuminate (when timer charging is off) or blink (when timer charging is operating) for several seconds and then turn off and plug-in charging will not start.
      Incorrect Charge Mode was selected Interview customer and provide instruction on usage.

      1. Explain to the customer that when Charge Mode is set to "Start", charging will begin at the set time and if it is set to "Departure", charging will complete by the set time.
      ENVIRONMENT RELATED CAUSE

      Possible Cause Action to be Taken
      Plug-in charging was suspended due to power outage, circuit breaker operation, etc. Interview customer and provide instruction on usage.

      1. Explain to the customer that the plug-in charging was suspended due to power outage, circuit breaker operation, etc.
      Charging was suspended by charging station or charging station was incompatible Interview customer and provide instruction on usage.

      1. Explain to the customer that plug-in charging may not start due to a power management function or charging control function of the charging station. Also, charging may not be performed if the charging station is incompatible.

        (Check the charging station specifications provided by the manufacturer.)
    2. Take appropriate action in accordance with the result of the cause analysis.

    1. Perform cause analysis in the order of "User Related Cause", "Environment Related Cause" and "External Power Source/Charging Stand Related Cause" categories as specified in the following tables below.

      • Explain to the customer that if the charging connector is connected when the charge schedule is set, the charging indicator (EV charger lid indicator) will blink for a few seconds and then turn off.
      • Explain to the customer that plug-in charging will not start immediately after connecting the charging connector if the charge schedule is set.

        (Explain to the customer that plug-in charging can be started immediately if all of the charge schedules are canceled or if Charge Now is turned on.)

      • Explain to the customer that if they want to perform charging immediately, if a scheduled charging time is set, they must select "Charge Now" on the Charge Schedule screen of the radio and display receiver assembly display.
      Charging station was used improperly Confirm how to properly use the charging station with user's manual or instructions etc.
      Charging connector was not securely connected to charging inlet Interview customer and provide instruction on usage.

      1. Explain to the customer that the charging connector should be fully inserted into the charging inlet.
      Plug-in charging was attempted when HV supply battery was fully charged Explain to the customer that if the charging connector is connected to the vehicle when the HV battery is fully charged, the charging indicator (EV charger lid indicator) will illuminate (Charge Now) or blink (timer charging) for several seconds and then turn off and plug-in charging will not start.

      1. Explain to the customer that the plug-in charging was suspended due to power outage, circuit breaker operation, etc.
      EXTERNAL POWER SOURCE/CHARGING STAND RELATED CAUSE

      Charging was suspended by charging station or charging station was incompatible Interview customer and check the charging station.

      1. Explain to the customer that plug-in charging may not start due to a power management function or charging control function of the charging station. Also, charging may not be performed if the charging station is incompatible.

        (Check the charging station specifications provided by the manufacturer.)
      Charging was suspended due to abnormal electrical outlet voltage Interview customer and check the electrical outlet.
      Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [12/2023 - ]
      1. If charging does not begin due to an abnormal electrical outlet voltage or an inappropriate ground wire connection, the electrical outlet should be checked by a qualified tradesperson.
    2. Take appropriate action in accordance with the result of the cause analysis.
