Installation [12/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSTALL VVT SENSOR (for Exhaust Side of Bank 1)

      *1 O-ring - -
      *a VVT Sensor Tip *b Seam
      *c Correct *d Incorrect
      *e 10 mm Union Nut Wrench *f Torque Wrench Fulcrum Length
      1. Perform this procedure only when reusing the VVT sensor.

        1. Clean the O-ring groove of the VVT sensor.

        NOTE:

        Make sure the O-ring groove is free of foreign matter.

        2. Install a new O-ring to the VVT sensor.

        NOTE:

        Set the O-ring on the tip of the VVT sensor and roll it into the O-ring groove with bare hands to install it.

        3. Check if the O-ring is twisted.

        HINT: 

        Check the entire circumference of the seam of the O-ring for twisting.

      2. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring.
      3. Apply adhesive to threads of the bolt.

        Adhesive

        Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent

      4. Temporarily install the VVT sensor to the cylinder head cover sub-assembly with the bolt.
        NOTE:
        • If the VVT sensor has been struck or dropped, replace it.
        • Make sure the O-ring is not cracked or moved out of place when installing.
      5. Using a 10 mm union nut wrench, tighten the bolt.

        Specified tightening torque 

        Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf/cm, 7 ft.lbf) 

        HINT: 

        • Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

          Refer to PRECAUTION [09/2023 - ]

        • When using a 10 mm union nut wrench (fulcrum length of 22 mm (0.866 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 162 mm (6.38 in.)):

          8.8 N.m (90 kgf/cm, 78 in.lbf)

      6. Connect the ignition coil assembly connector and VVT sensor connector.
  2. INSTALL VVT SENSOR (for Intake Side of Bank 1)

      *c Correct *d Incorrect
      1. Perform this procedure only when reusing the VVT sensor.

        1. Clean the O-ring groove of the VVT sensor.

        NOTE:

        Make sure the O-ring groove is free of foreign matter.

        2. Install a new O-ring to the VVT sensor.

        NOTE:

        Set the O-ring on the tip of the VVT sensor and roll it into the O-ring groove with bare hands to install it.

        3. Check if the O-ring is twisted.

        HINT: 

        Check the entire circumference of the seam of the O-ring for twisting.

      2. Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring.
      3. Apply adhesive to threads of the bolt.

        Adhesive

        Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent

      4. Install the VVT sensor to the cylinder head cover sub-assembly with the bolt.

        Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf/cm, 7 ft.lbf) 

        NOTE:
        • If the VVT sensor has been struck or dropped, replace it.
        • Make sure the O-ring is not cracked or moved out of place when installing.
      5. Connect the VVT sensor connector.
  3. INSTALL INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [12/2023 - ]

  4. INSPECT FOR ENGINE OIL LEAK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6
