Front Window Fogging [08/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK REFRIGERANT SHORTAGE 
    1. Prepare the vehicle according to the table below.
      MEASUREMENT CONDITION:

      Air Conditioning Air Inlet Temperature*2 25 to 35°C (77 to 95°F)

      HINT: 

      *1: This inspection can be judged correctly only if the ambient temperature is within a range of 0 to 49°C (32 to 120°F). Therefore, postpone the test if the temperature is low.

      *2: This inspection can be judged correctly only if the air inlet temperature is within a range of 25 to 35°C (77 to 95°F). Therefore, postpone the test if the temperature is out of range.

    2. Using the GTS, check the amount of refrigerant.

      Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Utility

      Refrigerant Gas Volume Check
      NOTE:

      If the conditions for the inspection are not met, "Refrigerant incorrect" will be displayed on the GTS. Confirm the conditions of the inspection and perform the check again.

      HINT: 

      • If the amount of refrigerant is insufficient, "Refrigerant shortage" is displayed on the GTS and the indicator light on the A/C switch turns off.
      • When performing this inspection, a DTC will not be output even if "Refrigerant shortage" is displayed on the GTS.

  2. CHECK OPERATION 
    1. Press the front defroster switch on the radio and display receiver assembly and check that the air outlet mode changes to DEF mode.

      OK

      The air outlet mode changes to DEF mode.

    GO TO DTC B1403-7F. Refer to  DTC B1403-7F: Front Air Outlet Damper Control Servo Motor Actuator Stuck Off [08/2023 - ]

  3. INSPECT HEATING ELECTRIC EXPANSION VALVE (NO. 2 COOLER EXPANSION VALVE) 
    NOTE:

    Check that the following DTCs are not stored.

    • B3A0B-18
    • B3A0B-19
    1. Install a manifold gauge set.

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [10/2022 - ]

    2. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the GTS.

      Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Active Test

      • Engine Coolant Temperature: 40°C (104°F) or less than 40°C (104°F)

      Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Active Test

      Read the gauge of the manifold gauge set and check that the value is changing.

    REPLACE HEATING ELECTRIC EXPANSION VALVE (NO. 2 COOLER EXPANSION VALVE). Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2023 - ]

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EVAPORATOR FRONT MAGNETIC VALVE (NO. 2 MAGNET VALVE ASSEMBLY) - HEAT PUMP ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the A59 evaporator front magnetic valve (No. 2 magnet valve assembly) connector.
    2. Disconnect the A62 heat pump ECU assembly connector.
    3. Remove the magnet-clutch relay (A/C MG) from the No. 2 engine room relay block and No. 2 junction block assembly.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A59-2 (VC) - A62-12 (EVMV) Always Below 1 Ω
      Relay terminal 5 - A59-1 (VH) Always Below 1 Ω
      A59-2 (VC) or A62-12 (EVMV) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Relay terminal 5 or A59-1 (VH) - Other terminals and body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  5. CHECK COOLING ELECTRIC EXPANSION VALVE (COOLER EXPANSION VALVE) 
    1. Set the vehicle to the following conditions.
      MEASUREMENT CONDITION:

      HINT: 

      *: This inspection can be judged correctly only if the ambient temperature is within a range of 0 to 49°C (32 to 120°F). Therefore, postpone the test if the temperature is low.

    2. Using the GTS, perform the Active Test and check the Data List values.

  6. CHECK HEATING ELECTRIC EXPANSION VALVE (NO. 2 COOLER EXPANSION VALVE) 
    1. Set the vehicle to the following conditions.

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEATING ELECTRIC EXPANSION VALVE (NO. 2 COOLER EXPANSION VALVE) - HEAT PUMP ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the A56 heating electric expansion valve (No. 2 cooler expansion valve) connector.
    2. Disconnect the A61 heat pump ECU assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A56-1 (HV3) - A61-23 (HEA2) Always Below 1 Ω
      A56-4 (HV4) - A61-24 (HEA1) Always Below 1 Ω

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      2 (HV1) - 5 (HV2) 20°C (68°F) 8 to 10 Ω

    REPLACE HEATING ELECTRIC EXPANSION VALVE (NO. 2 COOLER EXPANSION VALVE). Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2023 - ] 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COOLING ELECTRIC EXPANSION VALVE (COOLER EXPANSION VALVE) - HEAT PUMP ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the q1 cooling electric expansion valve (cooler expansion valve) connector.
    2. Disconnect the A61 heat pump ECU assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      q1-1 (HPR-) - A61-25 (CEA2) Always Below 1 Ω
      q1-4 (HPR+) - A61-13 (CEA1) Always Below 1 Ω
