DTC P012F-62: Engine Coolant Temperature/Engine Oil Temperature Signal Compare Failure [08/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P012F-62) 
    1. Read the DTCs and record the Freeze Frame Data.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      P012F-62 and other DTCs are output A
      P012F-62 is output B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than P012F-62 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2023 - 10/2024]  , or Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2024 - ]

  2. CHECK FREEZE FRAME DATA (COOLANT TEMPERATURE AND INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE) 
    1. Using the GTS, read the values displayed in the freeze frame data recorded in step 1.

      Powertrain > Engine > DTC(P012F-62) > Freeze Frame Data 

      Tester Display
      Coolant Temperature
      Intake Air Temperature
    2. Read the value displayed on the GTS.

      HINT: 

      • When the engine is cold, the value of the engine coolant temperature, engine oil temperature and intake air temperature should be approximately the same.
      • If the result is not as specified, check that there are no heat sources such as a block heater in the engine compartment.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The difference between the value of Coolant Temperature and Intake Air Temperature is 15 or less A
      None of the above conditions are met B

      HINT: 

      15°C (27°F)

    Result: 

    REPLACE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2023 - ]

  3. CHECK FREEZE FRAME DATA (ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE) 
    1. Using the GTS, read the values displayed in the freeze frame data recorded in step 1.

      Powertrain > Engine > DTC(P012F-62) > Freeze Frame Data 

      Tester Display
      Engine Oil Temperature Sensor
      Intake Air Temperature
    2. Read the value displayed on the GTS.

      HINT: 

      When the engine is cold, the value of the engine coolant temperature, engine oil temperature and intake air temperature should be approximately the same.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The difference between the value of Engine Oil Temperature Sensor and Intake Air Temperature is 15 or less A
      None of the above conditions are met B

      HINT: 

      15°C (27°F)

    Result: 

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2023 - ] 

    Result: 

    REPLACE OIL PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE SENSOR. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2023 - ]
