DTC P0016-00: Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor A [10/2022 - 08/2023]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0016-00) 
    1. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      P0016-00 and other DTCs are output A
      P0016-00 is output B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than P0016-00 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2022 - 08/2023]

  2. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY 

    Pre-procedure1

    • Check if the eccentric shaft of the camshaft timing gear assembly rotates smoothly.

      *1 Camshaft Timing Gear Assembly
      *2 Eccentric Shaft
      NOTE:

      If the camshaft is at a position where a valve is about to open, the eccentric shaft may become difficult to rotate.

      OK

      Rotates smoothly.

      Result

    Post-procedure1

    • Perform "Inspection After Repair" after removing the cam timing control motor with EDU assembly.

      HINT: 

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2022 - ]

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2022 - 08/2023] 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK VALVE TIMING (CHECK FOR LOOSE AND JUMPED TEETH ON TIMING CHAIN) 

    Pre-procedure1

    • Remove the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

      HINT: 

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 30

    • Turn the crankshaft pulley and align its groove with the TDC timing mark of the timing chain cover.
    • Check that the timing marks of the camshaft timing gear assembly and camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly are at the positions shown in the illustration.

      *b TDC Timing Mark
      *c Groove

      HINT: 

      If the timing marks are not as shown, turn the crankshaft one revolution clockwise.

      OK

      Timing marks on camshaft timing gear assembly and camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly are at the positions shown in the illustration.

      HINT: 

      If the result is not as specified, check for mechanical malfunctions that may have affected the valve timing, such as a jumped tooth or stretching of the timing chain.

  4. CLEAR DTC

    • Clear the DTCs.

    • Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  5. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0016-00) 

    Pre-procedure1

    • Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in the Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    • Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output A
      P0016-00 is output B

    Post-procedure1

    • None.

    Result: 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [10/2022 - ]

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2022 - 08/2023] 

  6. CHECK ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM 
    1. Check for mechanical malfunctions that affect the valve timing, such as a jumped tooth or stretching of the timing chain.

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after repairing or replacing the engine mechanical system.

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2022 - ]
