Inspection [09/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT FRONT OIL PUMP BODY SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a caliper gauge, measure the inside diameter of the front oil pump body sub-assembly bushing.

      Maximum Inside Diameter

      38.138 mm (1.50 in.)

      If the inside diameter is greater than the maximum, replace the front oil pump body sub-assembly.

  2. INSPECT STATOR SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a caliper gauge, measure the inside diameter of the stator shaft assembly bushing.

      Maximum Inside Diameter

      Front Side 

      21.527 mm (0.848 in.)

      Rear Side 

      32.03 mm (1.26 in.)

      If the inside diameter is greater than the maximum, replace the stator shaft assembly.

  3. INSPECT OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY CLEARANCE 
    1. Push the front oil pump driven gear to one side of the front oil pump body sub-assembly.

    2. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance.

      Standard Clearance

      0.10 to 0.17 mm (0.00394 to 0.00669 in.)

      Maximum Clearance

      0.17 mm (0.00669 in.)

      If the clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the front oil pump drive gear, front oil pump driven gear and front oil pump body sub-assembly.

    3. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the front oil pump driven gear teeth and the front oil pump drive gear teeth.

      Standard Clearance

      0.070 to 0.150 mm (0.00276 to 0.00590 in.)

      Maximum Clearance

      0.150 mm (0.00590 in.)

      If the clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the front oil pump drive gear, front oil pump driven gear and front oil pump body sub-assembly.

    4. Using a straightedge and feeler gauge, measure the side clearance of both gears.

      Standard Clearance

      0.03 to 0.05 mm (0.00118 to 0.00196 in.)

      Maximum Clearance

      0.05 mm (0.00196 in.)

    5. There are 7 different thickness for the front oil pump drive gear and front oil pump driven gear.

      35321-50040 3 10.757 to 10.763 mm (0.42350 to 0.42374 in.)
      35321-50050 4 10.764 to 10.770 mm (0.42378 to 0.42401 in.)
      35321-50060 5 10.771 to 10.777 mm (0.42405 to 0.42429 in.)
      35321-50070 6 10.778 to 10.784 mm (0.42433 to 0.42457 in.)

      Front Oil Pump Driven Gear Thickness

      35322-50020 1 10.743 to 10.749 mm (0.42295 to 0.42319 in.)

      35322-50050 4 10.764 to 10.770 mm (0.42378 to 0.42401 in.)

      If the clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the front oil pump drive gear, front oil pump driven gear and front oil pump body sub-assembly.

  4. INSPECT FRONT OIL PUMP DRIVE GEAR ROTATION 
    1. Install the oil pump assembly to the torque converter assembly.
    2. Check that the front oil pump drive gear rotates smoothly.

    3. Remove the oil pump assembly from the torque converter assembly.
