Disassembly [09/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [09/2014 - ]

  2. REMOVE REFILL PLUG 
    1. Remove the refill plug and O-ring from the automatic transmission with transfer assembly.

  3. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER LH 
    1. Remove the nut, spring washer and transmission control shaft lever LH.

  4. REMOVE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, bend back the tabs of the lock washer.

    2. Remove the nut and lock washer.
    3. Remove the bolt and park/neutral position switch assembly.

      HINT: 

      Make sure that the manual valve lever shaft has not been rotated prior to installing the park/neutral position switch assembly as the detent spring may become detached from the manual valve lever shaft.

  5. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts, transmission oil cooler and spacer.

    2. Remove the 2 O-rings from the transmission oil cooler.

    3. Remove the 2 O-rings from the spacer.
  6. REMOVE TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (NT) 
    1. Remove the bolt and transmission revolution sensor (NT).

    2. Remove the O-ring from the transmission revolution sensor (NT).
  7. REMOVE TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (SP2) 
    1. Remove the bolt and transmission revolution sensor (SP2).

    2. Remove the O-ring from the transmission revolution sensor (SP2).
  8. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BREATHER TUBE 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts.

    2. Remove the automatic transmission breather tube.
  9. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CASE PLUG 
    1. Remove the 5 automatic transmission case plugs from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 5 O-rings from the 5 automatic transmission case plugs.
    3. Using a T55 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the automatic transmission case plug from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

    4. Remove the O-ring from the automatic transmission case plug.
  10. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HOUSING 
    1. Remove the 10 bolts.

    2. Remove the automatic transmission housing.
  11. SECURE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the automatic transmission case sub-assembly to an overhaul stand.

  12. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:

    Do not turn the automatic transmission with transfer assembly upside down as this may cause the transmission valve body assembly to be contaminated with foreign matter in the bottom of the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly.

    1. Remove the overflow plug and gasket.

    3. Remove the 20 bolts, automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly and automatic transmission oil pan gasket.

  13. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL CLEANER MAGNET 
    1. Remove the 6 transmission oil cleaner magnets from the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly.

    2. Examine particles in the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly.
      1. Use the removed transmission oil cleaner magnets to collect any steel chips. Examine the chips and particles in the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly and on the transmission oil cleaner magnets to determine what type of wear might be found in the automatic transmission with transfer assembly.

        Result

        Steel (magnetic):

        Bearing, gear and clutch plate wear

        Brass (non-magnetic):

        Bushing wear

  14. REMOVE VALVE BODY OIL STRAINER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and valve body oil strainer assembly from the transmission valve body assembly.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the valve body oil strainer assembly.

  15. REMOVE TRANSMISSION WIRE 
    1. Remove the bolt and temperature sensor clamp, and disconnect the ATF temperature sensor from the transmission valve body assembly.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 valve body wire harness clamps from the transmission valve body assembly.

  17. REMOVE TRANSAXLE CASE GASKET 
    1. Remove the 3 transaxle case gaskets.

  20. REMOVE C-2 ACCUMULATOR PISTON 
    1. Apply compressed air to the oil hole to remove the C-2 accumulator piston and spring from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

      NOTE:

      Hold the C-3 and B-3 accumulator pistons by hand to prevent them from jumping out.

    2. Remove the 2 O-rings from the C-2 accumulator piston.
    3. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring and spring sub-assembly from the C-2 accumulator piston.

      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the C-2 accumulator piston.

      HINT: 

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  21. REMOVE B-3 ACCUMULATOR PISTON 
    1. Apply compressed air to the oil hole to remove the B-3 accumulator piston and spring from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.
      NOTE:

      Hold the C-3 accumulator piston by hand to prevent it from jumping out.

    2. Remove the 2 O-rings from the B-3 accumulator piston.
    3. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring and spring sub-assembly from the B-3 accumulator piston.

      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the B-3 accumulator piston.

      HINT: 

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  22. REMOVE C-3 ACCUMULATOR PISTON 
    1. Apply compressed air to the oil hole to remove the C-3 accumulator piston and 2 springs from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 2 O-rings from the C-3 accumulator piston.
    3. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring and spring sub-assembly from the C-3 accumulator piston.

      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the C-3 accumulator piston.

      HINT: 

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  23. REMOVE B-1 ACCUMULATOR VALVE 
    1. Remove the B-1 accumulator valve and the 2 springs from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

  24. REMOVE PARKING LOCK PAWL BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and parking lock pawl bracket.

    2. Remove the E-ring from the parking lock pawl shaft.
  27. REMOVE MANUAL VALVE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver and hammer, cut off the spacer and remove it from the manual valve lever shaft.

      Be careful not to damage the manual valve lever shaft.

      HINT: 

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Using a 3 mm pin punch and a hammer, remove the spring pin.

      HINT: 

      Slowly tap out the spring pin so that it does not fall into the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

    3. Remove the manual valve lever shaft and manual valve lever sub-assembly from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.
  28. REMOVE MANUAL VALVE LEVER SHAFT OIL SEAL 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the 2 manual valve lever shaft oil seals from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.
