DTC P0014-00: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance Bank 1; DTC P0015-00: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Retarded Bank 1 [10/2015 - 11/2017]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0014-00 OR P0015-00) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P0014-00 or P0015-00 is output A
      DTC P0014-00 or P0015-00 and other DTCs are output B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than P0014-00 or P0015-00 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2015 - 08/2016]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2016 - 11/2017]

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE EXHAUST VVT OCV DUTY RATIO BANK 1) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Exhaust VVT OCV Duty Ratio Bank 1.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

      Tester Display
      Control the Exhaust VVT OCV Duty Ratio Bank 1
    5. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) using the Techstream.

      OK

      Techstream Operation Engine Condition
      0% Normal engine speed
      100% Engine idles roughly or stalls

      HINT: 

      Refer to "Data List / Active Test" [Exhaust VVT OCV Control Duty Ratio Bank 1 and Exhaust VVT Change Angle Bank 1].

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [10/2015 - 08/2016] , or refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [08/2016 - 11/2017]

  3. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0014-00 OR P0015-00) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    6. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    7. Turn the Techstream on.
    8. Start the engine and warm it up.
    9. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes / Pending.
    11. Read the pending DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output A
      DTC P0014-00 or P0015-00 is output B

      HINT: 

      DTC P0014-00 or P0015-00 may be stored when foreign matter in the engine oil is caught in some parts of the system. The DTC will remain stored even if the system returns to normal after a short time. This foreign matter may then be captured by the oil filter.

    Result: 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [10/2015 - ]

  4. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT) 
    1. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft).

      Refer to INSPECTION [10/2015 - ]

      Result

      Proceed to

    Result:

    REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT). Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2015 - ]

  5. CHECK VALVE TIMING (CHECK FOR LOOSE TIMING CHAIN AND JUMPED TEETH) 
    1. Remove the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

      *a 7.45° *b 32.43°
      *c Timing Mark *d "0" Timing Mark

    2. Turn the crankshaft pulley and align its groove with the "0" timing mark of the timing chain cover.
    3. Check that the timing marks of the camshaft timing gear assembly and camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly are at the positions shown in the illustration.

      HINT: 

      If the timing marks are not at the positions shown, turn the crankshaft one revolution clockwise.

      OK

      HINT: 

      If the result is not as specified, check for mechanical malfunctions that may have affected the valve timing, such as a jumped tooth or stretching of the timing chain.

  6. INSPECT OIL CONTROL VALVE FILTER

    *1 Oil Control Valve Filter
    1. Remove the oil control valve filter.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 33

    2. Check that the filter is not clogged.

      OK

      Filter is not clogged.

  7. REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING EXHAUST GEAR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [10/2015 - ]

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly.

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2015 - 10/2018]

  9. CHECK ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM 
    1. Check for mechanical malfunctions that affect the valve timing, such as a jumped tooth or stretching of the timing chain.
