DTC P01E3-15: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 3 Circuit Short to Battery or Open [11/2021 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING GTS (CHECK FOR OPEN IN WIRE HARNESS)

    *1 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (for Inlet Side) *2 ECM
    *a Front view of wire harness connector
    (to Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (for Inlet Side))
    - -
    1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor (for inlet side) connector.
    2. Connect terminals 1 (E2) and 2 (THW3) of the engine coolant temperature sensor (for inlet side) connector on the wire harness side.
    3. According to the display on the GTS, read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Coolant Temperature Sensor3

      OK

      GTS Display Specified Condition
      Coolant Temperature Sensor3 Higher than 162°C (323°F)

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the engine coolant temperature sensor (for inlet side).

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [11/2021 - ]

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR (FOR INLET SIDE). Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2021 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR (FOR INLET SIDE) - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor (for inlet side) connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      V6-2 (THW3) - B49-78 (THW3) Always Below 1 Ω
      V6-1 (E2) - B49-81 (ETHW) Always Below 1 Ω
      V6-2 (THW3) or B49-78 (THW3) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2021 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
