Reassembly [07/2020 - 11/2021]: Procedure

  1. INSTALL REAR BUMPER EXTENSION MOUNTING BRACKET RH (w/ Damper) 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure for the other side.

    1. Install the rear bumper extension mounting bracket RH with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 29 N.m (296 kgf/cm, 21 ft.lbf) 

  2. INSTALL SUSPENSION TOWER DAMPER (w/ Damper) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  3. INSTALL REAR BUMPER REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the rear bumper reinforcement sub-assembly with the 10 bolts.

      Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf/cm, 15 ft.lbf) 

  4. INSTALL REAR BUMPER ENERGY ABSORBER 
    1. Attach the guide and claw to install the rear bumper energy absorber.

  5. INSTALL REAR BUMPER BAR REINFORCEMENT LH 
    1. Install the rear bumper bar reinforcement LH with the 3 bolts.

      Torque: 23 N.m (235 kgf/cm, 17 ft.lbf) 

  6. INSTALL REAR BUMPER BAR REINFORCEMENT RH 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  7. INSTALL REAR BUMPER ARM REINFORCEMENT LH 
    1. Attach the guide.

    2. Install the rear bumper arm reinforcement LH with 2 bolts.
  8. INSTALL REAR BUMPER ARM REINFORCEMENT RH 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  9. INSTALL REAR BUMPER NO. 1 SIDE SUPPORT LH 
    1. Attach the guide and install the rear bumper No. 1 side support LH with the 2 screws.

  10. INSTALL REAR BUMPER NO. 1 SIDE SUPPORT RH

    1. Attach the guide and install the rear bumper No. 4 side support LH with the grommet.

  13. INSTALL REAR BUMPER NO. 2 SIDE SUPPORT LH

    Install in this Direction
    1. Attach the claw and install the rear bumper No. 2 side support LH.
    2. Attach the clip.
  14. INSTALL REAR BUMPER NO. 2 SIDE SUPPORT RH

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  15. INSTALL REAR BUMPER NO. 2 PAD 

    HINT: 

    • When installing the rear bumper No. 2 pad, heat the rear bumper corner extension LH using a heat light.
    • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

    1. When reusing the rear bumper corner extension LH:
      1. Using a heat light, heat the rear bumper corner extension LH surface.
      2. Remove any remaining double-sided tape from the rear bumper corner extension LH.
      3. Wipe off any tape adhesive residue with cleaner.
        NOTE:
        • Installing the rear bumper No. 2 pad with some double-sided tape remaining may cause poor adhesion. Perform this procedure until the tape is sufficiently removed.
        • Make sure to use a cloth when removing. Using a screwdriver, etc., may cause damage and poor adhesion.
    2. Apply primer to the rear bumper corner extension LH on the installation area of the rear bumper No. 2 pad using a brush or felt.

      Primer
      NOTE:
      • Replace the brush or felt if it is dirty or has become hardened.
      • Keep any painted surface free from primer.
      • If the primer contacts a painted surface, it may leave light primer marks. Therefore, use protective tape when using liquid primer.
      • Do not touch surfaces to which primer has been applied until the rear bumper No. 2 pad has been attached.
    3. Let the primer dry sufficiently.
      NOTE:

      Do not touch applied surfaces until the primer is dry.

      Recommended drying time

      10 minutes or more (at 23°C (73°F))

    4. Remove the release paper of a new rear bumper No. 2 pad trying not to touch the adhesional surface.
      NOTE:

      After removing the peeling paper, do not touch the surface of the tape with your fingers or cotton work gloves.

    5. Install the rear bumper No. 2 pad in the position shown in the illustration.

      The application strength of the rear bumper No. 2 pad will weaken if reapplied. If reapplication is necessary, be sure to replace it with a new one.

      HINT:

  16. INSTALL REAR BUMPER NO. 3 PAD 

    HINT: 

    • When installing the rear bumper No. 3 pad, heat the rear bumper corner extension LH using a heat light.
    • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  17. INSTALL REAR BUMPER PAD INSERT 

    HINT: 

    • When installing the rear bumper pad insert, heat the rear bumper corner extension LH using a heat light.
    • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  18. INSTALL REAR BUMPER CORNER EXTENSION LH

    Turn Direction
    1. Attach the guide, turn the rear bumper corner extension LH with the guide as a starting point and install the clip.
    2. Attach the claw.
    3. Install the rear bumper corner extension LH with the 3 screws.

  29. REPAIR INSTRUCTION 
    1. Clean the rear bumper cover surface.
      1. using a heat light, heat the rear bumper cover surface.
        NOTE:
        • Do not touch the heat light and heated parts.
        • Touching the heat light may result in burns.
        • Touching heated parts for a long time may result in burns.
      2. wipe off any tape adhesive with cleaner.
    2. Installation temperature.
      1. When the ambient temperature is below 15°C (59°F), perform the installation procedure after warming the rear bumper cover surface (installation surface of the rear bumper cover) and tape to between 20 and 30°C (68 and 86°F) using a heat light.

        When the ambient temperature is higher than 35°C (95°F), cool the rear bumper cover surface (installation surface of the rear bumper cover) and tape to between 20 and 30°C (68 and 86°F) prior to installation.

        HINT: 

        • The most appropriate temperature for installing the tape is 25°C (77°F).
        • When the temperature is low, the tape turns stiff and falls off easily. When the temperature is high, the tape loses elasticity.
    3. Before installation.
      1. Make sure any dirt on and around the rear bumper cover surface where the tape will be installed (installation surface of the rear bumper cover) is removed, and that the surface is smooth. If the surface is rough or dirt remains when pressing the tape onto the surface, air will be trapped under the tape and result in a poor appearance.

        HINT: 

        Spray water on the shop floor to settle any dust.

    4. Key points for handling the tape.
      1. The tape bends and rolls up easily. Store the tape between flat pieces of cardboard or other similar objects and keep it dry and level.
        NOTE:

        Do not bend the tape or leave it in a place with a high temperature.

    5. Key points for the installation of the tape (how to use a squeegee and the installation procedure for a flat surface).
      NOTE:
      • Position the tape with a high level of accuracy to achieve a neat finish and to avoid peeling.
      • The tape cannot be reused because it deforms and will not fit after removal.
      1. To avoid air bubbles, slightly raise the part of the tape that is going to be applied so that its adhesive surface does not touch the rear bumper cover while applying the tape. Tilt the squeegee 40 to 50° (for pressing forward) or 30 to 45° (for pulling) from the rear bumper cover surface and press with a force of 29 N (3 kgf, 6.5 lbf.) while moving the squeegee at a constant slow speed of 30 to 70 mm (1.18 to 2.76 in.) per second.

        NOTE:

        Be sure to observe the specified pressing speed, force and angle of the squeegee to avoid wrinkles and air bubbles.

        HINT: 

        • Either angle of the squeegee (for pressing forward or for pulling) is acceptable.
        • Be sure to apply the tape while removing the release paper 10 to 20 mm (0.394 to 0.787 in.) from the edge of the squeegee.

      1. If it is difficult to press the tape, press it in several steps as shown in the illustration. Use your fingers or the padded surface of a squeegee to slowly apply the tape to the hem of the vehicle, especially for a small hem.

        HINT: 

        When applying tape to the backside of a hem, remove the release paper and use your fingers or the padded surface of a squeegee.

    7. Key points for the installation of the tape (how to use a squeegee and the installation procedure for corners).
      1. Remove the release paper and apply the tape carefully with your fingers.
      2. Before applying the tape to each corner, heat the tape using a heat light and gradually apply it to avoid wrinkles in the tape and achieve a neat finish.
    8. Check after installation.
      1. After completing the application, check if the tape is applied neatly. If the tape is not applied neatly, apply new tape.
        NOTE:

        Do not reuse the tape.

  30. INSTALL NO. 1 MOULDING TAPE 

    HINT: 

    • When installing the No. 1 moulding tape, heat the rear bumper cover using a heat light.
    • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

        • Installing the No. 1 moulding tape with some double-sided tape remaining may cause poor adhesion. Perform this procedure until the tape is sufficiently removed.
        • Make sure to use a cloth when removing. Using a screwdriver, etc., may cause damage and poor adhesion.
    2. Remove the release paper of a new No. 1 moulding tape trying not to touch the adhesional surface.
      NOTE:

      After removing the peeling paper, do not touch the surface of the tape with your fingers or cotton work gloves.

    3. Install the No. 1 moulding tape in the position shown in the illustration.

      NOTE:

      The application strength of the No. 1 moulding tape will weaken if reapplied. If reapplication is necessary, be sure to replace it with a new one.

      HINT: 

      Apply pressure so that it does not lift up from the rear bumper cover.

    1. When reusing the rear bumper cover:
      1. Using a heat light, heat the rear bumper cover surface.
      2. Remove any remaining double-sided tape from the rear bumper cover.
      3. Wipe off any tape adhesive residue with cleaner.
        NOTE:
        • Installing the ultrasonic sensor clip with some double-sided tape remaining may cause poor adhesion. Perform this procedure until the tape is sufficiently removed.

    2. Apply primer to the rear bumper cover on the installation area of the ultrasonic sensor clip using a brush or felt.

      NOTE:
      • Replace the brush or felt if it is dirty or has become hardened.
      • Keep any painted surface free from primer.
      • If the primer contacts a painted surface, it may leave light primer marks. Therefore, use protective tape when using liquid primer.
      • Do not touch surfaces to which primer has been applied until the ultrasonic sensor clip has been attached.
    3. Let the primer dry sufficiently.
      NOTE:

      Do not touch applied surfaces until the primer is dry.

      Recommended drying time

      10 minutes or more (at 23°C (73°F))

    4. Remove the release paper of a new ultrasonic sensor clip trying not to touch the adhesional surface.
      NOTE:

      After removing the peeling paper, do not touch the surface of the tape with your fingers or cotton work gloves.

    5. Install the ultrasonic sensor clip in the position shown in the illustration.
