Installation [12/2021 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSTALL RACK AND PINION POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY

      Install in this Direction (1) Install in this Direction (2)
      1. Insert the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly into the vehicle in the order shown in the illustration.
      2. Install the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly to the front frame assembly with the 3 bolts, 3 nuts and 3 washers.

        Torque: 120 N.m (1224 kgf/cm, 89 ft.lbf)

      1. Connect the 2 wire harness connectors to the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly.

        HINT: 

        Move the lock lever to connect as shown in the illustration.

      2. Attach the 3 clamps and connect the connector.
      3. Attach the 2 clamps and connect the wire harness to the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly with the bolt.

        Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf/cm, 15 ft.lbf) 

  2. INSTALL FRONT BOUND STOPPER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

      1. Install the front bound stopper bracket sub-assembly LH with the 4 bolts.

        Bolt (A), (B) 

        Torque: 42 N.m (428 kgf/cm, 31 ft.lbf) 

        Bolt (C), (D) 

        Torque: 76 N.m (775 kgf/cm, 56 ft.lbf) 

        NOTE:

        Install the 4 bolts in the order of (A), (B), (C) and (D).

  3. INSTALL FRONT BOUND STOPPER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.
  4. CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

      1. Connect the tie rod end sub-assembly LH to the front lower ball joint assembly with the a new nut.

        Torque: 120 N.m (1224 kgf/cm, 89 ft.lbf) 

      2. Install a new clip.
        NOTE:

        Further tighten the nut up to 60° if the holes for the clip are not aligned.

  5. CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.
  6. CONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY

      *a Matchmark - -
      1. If the dust cover was removed, install by aligning with the matchmarks.
      2. Align the part of the dust cover labeled A with the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft, and install the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly to the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly.
      3. Tighten the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft with the bolt.

        Torque: 35 N.m (357 kgf/cm, 26 ft.lbf) 

        NOTE:

        Be careful not to damage the dust cover.

  7. INSTALL FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [12/2021 - ]

  8. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  9. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT 

    Refer to ADJUSTMENT [12/2021 - 11/2022] , or refer to ADJUSTMENT [11/2022 - ]

  10. FULLY TIGHTEN TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

      *a Torque Wrench Fulcrum Length *b Length of 131.5 mm (5.177 in.)
      *c 30 mm (1.181 in.) - -
      1. Using SST, tighten the nut of the tie rod end sub-assembly LH.
        • SST: 09922-10010 

        Specified tightening torque 

        Torque: 90 N.m (918 kgf/cm, 66 ft.lbf) 

        HINT: 

        • Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

          Refer to PRECAUTION [12/2021 - ]

        • When using SST (fulcrum length of 131.5 mm (5.177 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 255 mm (10.039 in.)): 59.4 N.m (606 kgf/cm, 44 ft.lbf)
  11. FULLY TIGHTEN TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.
  12. ECU CONFIGURATION 

    Refer to ECU CONFIGURATION [12/2021 - ]

  13. UPDATE ECU SECURITY KEY 

    Refer to UPDATE ECU SECURITY KEY [12/2021 - ]

  14. POWER STEERING ECU INITIAL SETTING 

    Refer to POWER STEERING ECU INITIAL SETTING [12/2021 - ]
