DTC B0021-12: Left Curtain Deployment Control 1 Circuit Short to Battery [11/2021 - 10/2023]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC 

    Pre-procedure1

    1. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

      Procedure1

    2. Check for DTCs.

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      History B0021-12 is output B

      Post-procedure1

    Result:

  2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 

    Pre-procedure1

    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

      Procedure1

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the curtain shield airbag assembly LH and airbag ECU assembly.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

      Post-procedure1

    4. None

    Result: 

    NG 

    CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK CONNECTORS 

    Pre-procedure1

    1. Disconnect the airbag ECU assembly connector.

      *1 Curtain Shield Airbag Assembly LH
      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly
      *3 Wire Harness
    2. Disconnect the curtain shield airbag assembly LH connector.

      Procedure1

    3. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not deformed or damaged.

      OK

      The terminals of the connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    4. Check that the connectors are not loose, deformed or damaged.

      OK

      The connector locking button is not disengaged, and the claw of the lock is not deformed or damaged.

    5. Check that the short springs of the activation prevention mechanisms of the wire harness connector are not deformed or damaged.

      OK

      The short springs are not deformed or damaged.

      Post-procedure1

    6. None

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  4. CHECK CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Connect the connector to the airbag ECU assembly.

      *1 Curtain Shield Airbag Assembly LH
      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly
      *3 Wire Harness
      *4 SST
      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Curtain Shield Airbag Assembly LH)
    2. Connect the white wire side of SST (resistance 2.1 Ω) to connector C.
      WARNING:

      Never connect a tester to the curtain shield airbag assembly LH for measurement, as this may lead to a serious injury due to airbag deployment.

      NOTE:
      • Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting it.
      • Insert SST straight into the terminals of the connector.
      • SST: 09843-18061 
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs 

      Result

      Proceed to

  5. CHECK CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSEMBLY LH 

    Pre-procedure1

    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

      Procedure1

    3. Check for DTCs.

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result  Proceed to
      DTC B0021-12 is not output A
      DTC B0021-12 is output B

      Post-procedure1

    4. Turn the power switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    6. Disconnect SST from connector C.

    Result: 

    A 

    REPLACE CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSEMBLY LH. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2021 - 10/2022]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2022 - 10/2023]

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    Pre-procedure1

    1. Disconnect the L37 airbag ECU assembly connector.

      *1 Curtain Shield Airbag Assembly LH
      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly
      *3 Wire Harness
      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Curtain Shield Airbag Assembly LH)
    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).

      Procedure1

    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      L69-1 (ICL+) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      L69-2 (ICL-) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V

      Result

    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK

  7. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Connect the airbag ECU assembly connector.

      *3 Wire Harness
    2. Connect the curtain shield airbag assembly LH connector.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs 

      Result

      Proceed to

  8. CHECK DTC

    1. Turn the power switch off.
