Fuel Receiver Gauge Display Malfunction [09/2014 - 03/2019]: Procedure

  1. CHECK SYMPTOMS 
    1. Ask the customer about the problem symptoms.

      Result

      Malfunction occurs when adding fuel (Even after adding fuel, reading does not increase at all or increases very slowly, etc.) A

  2. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if SFI system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [09/2014 - ]

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes

      SFI system DTCs are output. B

    Result:

  3. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if vehicle stability control system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [09/2014 - 11/2017] , or refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [11/2017 - 03/2019]

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Vehicle stability control system DTCs are not output. A
      Vehicle stability control system DTCs are output. B

    GO TO VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [09/2014 - 11/2017]  , or refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2017 - 03/2019]

  4. CHECK FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE OPERATION BY ADDING FUEL 
    1. Record the fuel receiver gauge reading.
    2. If the fuel tank assembly is almost full, drain 20 liters or more of fuel. (This is not necessary when the fuel tank assembly is sufficiently below full.)
    3. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to reset the fuel receiver gauge.

      HINT: 

      Check that the engine switch is turned off before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal and turn the engine switch on (IG).
    5. Check that the fuel receiver gauge has been reset.
    6. Drive the vehicle at 1.75 km/h or more, then move the shift lever to P and turn the engine switch off.
    7. Add 5.0 liters or more of fuel, turn the engine switch on (IG), and check that the fuel receiver gauge reading increases in proportion to the amount of fuel added.

  5. INSPECT FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY 

    HINT: 

    Inspect the fuel tank assembly for deformation, foreign matter or an improperly installed fuel receiver gauge, as this may be the cause of the fuel receiver gauge malfunction.

    1. Visually check the fuel tank assembly for any abnormalities.
    2. Check if there is an excessive amount of foreign matter in the fuel tank assembly.
    3. Check the installation condition of the fuel tank assembly, fuel sender gauge assembly and No. 2 fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Appearance of the fuel tank assembly is abnormal. B
      There is an excessive amount of foreign matter in the fuel tank assembly. C
      The fuel tank assembly, fuel sender gauge assembly or No. 2 fuel sender gauge assembly is not installed correctly. D

    REPLACE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2014 - 09/2020]

    CLEAN INSIDE OF FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY 

    Result: 

    INSTALL FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY, FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY OR NO. 2 FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY CORRECTLY

  6. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY, FUEL TANK VENT TUBE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the O3 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the U25 fuel suction tube with pump and gauge assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the T18 fuel tank vent tube assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      O3-27 (FR) - U25-2 (FS) Always Below 1 Ω
      O3-28 (FE) - T18-3 (FR) Always Below 1 Ω
      U25-3 (FE) - T18-2 (S) Always Below 1 Ω
      O3-27 (FR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      O3-28 (FE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      U25-3 (FE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  8. INSPECT FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel suction tube with pump and gauge assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [09/2014 - ]

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

  9. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [09/2014 - ]

    2. Inspect the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [09/2014 - ]

  10. INSPECT FUEL TANK VENT TUBE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel tank vent tube assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [09/2014 - ]

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  11. INSPECT NO. 2 FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the No. 2 fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [09/2014 - ]

    2. Inspect the No. 2 fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [09/2014 - ]

      Result

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2014 - ]

  12. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if SFI system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [09/2014 - ]

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes

      SFI system DTCs are output. B

  13. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if vehicle stability control system DTCs are output.

  14. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [09/2014 - ]

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Trouble Codes

  15. INSPECT FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to reset the fuel receiver gauge.

      HINT: 

      Check that the engine switch is turned off before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal and turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Check if the fuel receiver gauge reading corresponds with the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank assembly.

      Result

      Fuel receiver gauge reading corresponds with the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank assembly. A

  16. CHECK FOR DTC
