Automatic High Beam System does not Operate or Operation Indicator does not Illuminate [11/2021 - 10/2023]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Using the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2020 - 10/2023]

      Chassis > Front Recognition Camera > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Front Recognition Camera High Temperature 2 Whether high temperature malfunction of forward recognition camera exists or not Not High Temperature or High Temperature Not High Temperature: Approximately 65°C (149°F) or less
      High Temperature: Approximately 65°C (149°F) or higher
      If this item is "High Temperature", the automatic high beam system will be temporarily unavailable. If this does not improve even if the inside of the vehicle is left cooled for at least 10 minutes, the forward recognition camera may be malfunctioning.
      HINT: 
      In summertime, the windshield glass may reach 100°C (212°F) or higher

      HINT: 

      When "High Temperature" is displayed, move the vehicle to a cool area and turn the engine switch off to allow the temperature of the front recognition camera to decrease.

  2. CHECK AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM INDICATOR LIGHT 
    1. Check the operation of the automatic high beam indicator light.
      • Turn the engine switch on (IG).
      • Turn the light control switch to the AUTO or head position.
      • Turn the headlight dimmer switch to the low position.
      • Turn the automatic high beam main switch on.

      OK

      Automatic high beam indicator light illuminates.

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Using the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [10/2020 - 10/2023]

      1. Shine a light on the automatic high beam sensor*.

        HINT: 

        *: If troubleshooting is being performed in a bright area, such as outside on a sunny day, it will not be necessary to perform this step.

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Using the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [10/2020 - 10/2023]

      1. Cover the automatic high beam sensor with an opaque object, such as cardboard.
        NOTE:
        • Make sure that there is no clearance between the cardboard or equivalent object and the area of the windshield glass in front of the automatic high beam sensor.
        • If there is any clearance, light may shine on the automatic high beam sensor and the value of the Data List will not change.

  7. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the Techstream.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [10/2020 - 10/2023]

  8. INSPECT TURN SIGNAL SWITCH 
    1. Remove the turn signal switch.

      Refer to REMOVAL [12/2017 - ]

    2. Inspect the turn signal switch.

      Refer to INSPECTION [10/2020 - ]

  9. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL SWITCH HOUSING 
    1. Remove the steering wheel switch housing.

      Refer to REMOVAL [10/2020 - 10/2022] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2022 - 10/2023]

    2. Inspect the steering wheel switch housing.

      Refer to INSPECTION [12/2017 - ]
