DTC B1633/81: Rear Airbag Sensor Assembly RH Initialization Incomplete; DTC B1638/82: Rear Airbag Sensor Assembly LH Initialization Incomplete [03/2017 - 04/2020]: Procedure

  1. CHECK PAST DTC 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    2. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [03/2017 - 04/2020]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Proceed to
      DTC B1632/81 and B1637/82 are not output
      DTC B1632/81 is output
      DTC B1637/82 is output

    Result: 

    DTC B1632/81 is output 

    GO TO DTC B1632/81. Refer to  DTC B1630/23: Rear Airbag Sensor RH Circuit Malfunction; DTC B1632/81: Lost Communication with Rear Airbag Sensor RH; DTC B1635/24: Rear Airbag Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction; DTC B1637/82: Lost Communication with Rear Airbag Sensor LH [03/2017 - 04/2020] 

    Result: 

    DTC B1637/82 is output 

    GO TO DTC B1637/82. Refer to  DTC B1630/23: Rear Airbag Sensor RH Circuit Malfunction; DTC B1632/81: Lost Communication with Rear Airbag Sensor RH; DTC B1635/24: Rear Airbag Sensor LH Circuit Malfunction; DTC B1637/82: Lost Communication with Rear Airbag Sensor LH [03/2017 - 04/2020] 

    Result: 

    DTC B1632/81 and B1637/82 are not output

  2. CHECK DTC 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.

      HINT: 

      If a communication error occurs, DTCs for both the LH and RH sides will be stored simultaneously. The malfunctioning area can be identified by turning the engine switch off and then on (IG) again.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    3. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [03/2017 - 04/2020]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Proceed to
      DTC B1633/81 is output
      DTC B1638/82 is output

  3. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag ECU assembly and rear airbag sensor RH.

      Result

      Proceed to
      The connectors are properly connected
      The connectors are not properly connected

    Result:

    CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY

  4. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag ECU assembly and rear airbag sensor RH.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the airbag ECU assembly side and rear airbag sensor RH side) are not damaged.

  5. CHECK FLOOR WIRE 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      X26-4 (BCR+) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      X26-3 (BCR-) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    4. Turn the engine switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 25 (BBR+) and 26 (BBR-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      X26-4 (BCR+) - X26-3 (BCR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      X26-4 (BCR+) - X26-3 (BCR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      X26-4 (BCR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

  6. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Connect the connectors to the airbag ECU assembly.

      *1 Rear Airbag Sensor LH
      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly
    2. Interchange the side rear sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [03/2017 - 04/2020]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs 

    6. Turn the engine switch off.
    7. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [03/2017 - 04/2020]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Proceed to
      DTC B1638/82 is output
      DTC B1633/81 is output
      DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 are not output

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the engine switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    11. Return the rear airbag sensor LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    Result: 

    DTC B1638/82 is output 

    REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 05/2023] 

    Result: 

    DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 are not output 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [03/2017 - 04/2020]

    DTC B1633/81 is output

  7. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTOR 
    1. Check that the connector is properly connected to the door side airbag sensor RH.

  8. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the door side airbag sensor RH and rear airbag sensor RH.
    2. Check that the connector (on the door side airbag sensor RH side) is not damaged.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    4. Turn the engine switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 1 (BBR+) and 2 (BBR-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      R7-2 (BDR+) - R7-1 (BDR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  10. CHECK DTC 
    1. Connect the connectors to the door side airbag sensor RH and rear airbag sensor RH.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the engine switch off.
    6. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs.

  11. CHECK FLOOR WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire RH.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    5. Turn the engine switch off.

      NOTE:

    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

  15. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH 
    1. Connect the connectors to the airbag ECU assembly.

    2. Interchange the rear airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

    6. Turn the engine switch off.
    7. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs.

      Result

      DTC B1633/81 is output

    9. Turn the engine switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    11. Return the rear airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    Result: 

    DTC B1633/81 is output 

    REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 05/2023] 

    Result: 

    DTC B1633/81 and B1638/82 are not output 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [03/2017 - 04/2020]

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      SX1-30 (BBL+) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      SX1-48 (BBL-) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    5. Turn the engine switch off.
    6. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    7. Using a service wire, connect terminals 1 (BBL+) and 2 (BBL-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      SX1-30 (BBL+) - SX1-48 (BBL-) Always Below 1 Ω
    9. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    10. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      SX1-30 (BBL+) - SX1-48 (BBL-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      SX1-30 (BBL+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      SX1-48 (BBL-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
