DTC B162B/81: Side Airbag Sensor Assembly No. 2 Lost Communication (RH); DTC B162C/85: Side Airbag Sensor Assembly No. 2 Initialization Error (RH) [03/2017 - 04/2020]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag ECU assembly and side airbag sensor assembly RH.

      Result

      Proceed to
      The connectors are properly connected
      The connectors are not properly connected

    Result: 

    The connectors are not properly connected 

    CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    Result: 

    The connectors are properly connected

  2. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag ECU assembly and side airbag sensor assembly RH.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the airbag ECU assembly side and side airbag sensor assembly RH side) are not damaged.

      *1 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly RH
      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly
      *3 Floor Wire

      Result

      Proceed to
      The connectors are not deformed or damaged
      The connectors are deformed or damaged

    Result: 

    The connectors are deformed or damaged 

    REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    Result: 

    The connectors are not deformed or damaged

  3. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

      *1 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly RH
      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly
      *3 Floor Wire
      *4 Service Wire

      (to Airbag ECU Assembly)
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      X75-2 (BFR+) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      X75-1 (BFR-) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    4. Turn the engine switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 28 (BCR+) and 27 (BCR-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      X75-2 (BFR+) - X75-1 (BFR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      X75-2 (BFR+) - X75-1 (BFR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      X75-2 (BFR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      X75-1 (BFR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Connect the connectors to the airbag ECU assembly.
    2. Interchange the side airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors to them.

      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [03/2017 - 04/2020]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs 

    6. Turn the engine switch off.
    7. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [03/2017 - 04/2020]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B162B/81 or B162C/85 is output A
      DTC B163B/82 or B163C/86 is output B
      DTC B162B/81, B162C/85, B163B/82 and B163C/86 are not output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B162B/81, B162C/85, B163B/82 and B163C/86 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the engine switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    11. Return the side airbag sensor LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    Result: 

    REPLACE AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 05/2023] 

    Result: 

    REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 05/2023] 

    Result: 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [03/2017 - 04/2020]
