DTC C13A8/44: Tension Sensor Malfunction [03/2017 - 09/2018]: Procedure

  1. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Clear the DTC.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [03/2017 - 09/2018]

      Chassis > Electric Parking Brake > Clear DTCs 

    2. Turn the engine switch off.

      Result

      Proceed to
      NEXT

    Result: 

    NEXT

  2. CHECK DTC 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    2. Operate the electric parking brake.
    3. Check for DTC.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [03/2017 - 09/2018]

      Chassis > Electric Parking Brake > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC C13A8/44 is output A
      DTC C13A8/44 is not output B

    Result: 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [03/2017 - 04/2020]

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARKING BRAKE ECU ASSEMBLY - PARKING BRAKE WITH BRACKET ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the X66 and X67 parking brake ECU assembly connectors.
    3. Disconnect the X68 parking brake with bracket actuator assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      X66-3 (GND1) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      X67-8 (TSEN) - X68-5 (TSEN) Always Below 1 Ω
      X67-8 (TSEN) or X68-5 (TSEN) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      X67-6 (TSN2) - X68-10 (TSN2) Always Below 1 Ω
      X67-6 (TSN2) or X68-10 (TSN2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      X67-7 (VT) - X68-6 (VT) Always Below 1 Ω
      X67-7 (VT) or X68-6 (VT) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      X67-14 (TGND) - X68-1 (TGND) Always Below 1 Ω
      X67-14 (TGND) or X68-1 (TGND) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      X67-10 (SG) - X68-2 (SG) Always Below 1 Ω
      X67-10 (SG) or X68-2 (SG) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  4. CHECK PARKING BRAKE ECU ASSEMBLY (VT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Connect the parking brake ECU assembly connector.
    3. Connect the parking brake with bracket actuator assembly connector.
    4. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      (Parking Brake ECU Assembly)

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      X67-7 (VT) - X67-14 (TGND) Engine switch on (IG) 4.75 to 5.25 V

  5. CHECK PARKING BRAKE ECU ASSEMBLY (TSEN, TSN2 - TGND) 
    1. Measure the voltage between the terminals below.

      (Parking Brake ECU Assembly)
        Tester Connection Switch Condition
      (A) X67-6 (TSN2) - X67-14 (TGND) Engine switch on (IG)
      (B) X67-8 (TSEN) - X67-14 (TGND) Engine switch on (IG)

      HINT: 

      Take a note of the measurements.

    2. Turn the engine switch off.
    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Chassis / Electric Parking Brake / Data List.
    6. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      HINT: 

      This procedure is performed to compare the difference between the actual voltage and the voltage recognized by the ECU.

      Electric Parking Brake

      max.: 5.000 V
      Engine switch on (IG) Voltage (B) +/- 0.2 V is 0.3 to 4.7 V
      (3) Invalid Tension Sensor Comp Tension sensor comparison invalid display Enable or Disable Engine switch on (IG) Enable

      Chassis > Electric Parking Brake > Data List

  6. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE ECU ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Remove the parking brake ECU assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [03/2017 - 05/2023]

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      (Parking Brake ECU Assembly)

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      X67-8 (TSEN) - X66-3 (GND1) Always 4 to 6 kΩ
      X67-6 (TSN2) - X66-3 (GND1) Always 4 to 6 kΩ
      X67-14 (TGND) - X66-3 (GND1) Always Below 1 Ω
      X67-10 (SG) - X66-3 (GND1) Always Below 1 Ω

    REPLACE PARKING BRAKE WITH BRACKET ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 05/2023]

    REPLACE PARKING BRAKE ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 05/2023] 

  7. CHECK PARKING BRAKE ECU ASSEMBLY (VT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the parking brake with bracket actuator assembly connector.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      X68-6 (VT) - X68-1 (TGND) Engine switch on (IG) 4.75 to 5.25 V

    REPLACE PARKING BRAKE WITH BRACKET ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 05/2023]

    REPLACE PARKING BRAKE ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 05/2023] 

  8. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (DATA LIST) 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Chassis / Electric Parking Brake / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      Chassis > Electric Parking Brake > Data List
