DTC B1500: Fuel Sender Open Detected [07/2020 - 05/2023]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Input Fuel input Min.: 0 L, Max.: 127.5 L
      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates

        F: 80.8 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates

        3/4: 51.6 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates

        1/4: 28.8 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates

        E: 4.6 L

      Unit: Liter

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Fuel Input

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Fuel level data can be displayed on the Techstream A
      Fuel level data cannot be displayed on the Techstream B

    Result: 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 - ]

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the X17 fuel suction tube with pump and gauge assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the P25 combination meter assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      X17-3 (FR) - P25-12 (FR) Always Below 1 Ω
      X17-2 (FE) - P25-13 (FE&B) Always Below 1 Ω
      X17-1 (FV) - P25-14 (FV) Always Below 1 Ω
      P25-12 (FR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P25-13 (FE&B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P25-14 (FV) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2020 - 05/2023]

    2. Inspect the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [07/2020 - ]

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 - 05/2023] 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. INSPECT FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY

    *a Component without harness connected
    (fuel suction tube with pump and gauge assembly)
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      X17-1 (FV) - A-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      X17-2 (FE) - A-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      X17-3 (FR) - A-1 Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 - 05/2023]
