DTC P0AD9-15: Hybrid/EV Battery Positive Contactor Circuit Short to Auxiliary Battery or Open [10/2018 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SMRB STATUS) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / SMRB Status.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List

    5. Turn the power switch off.

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SMRB VOLTAGE) 
    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

  6. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR)

    CONNECT SECURELY 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the F60 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F60-16 (SMRB) - Body ground Power switch off 25.0 to 59.0 Ω

    3. Reconnect the F60 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY WIRES) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the appropriate service information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17 [10/2018 - 07/2022] Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17 [07/2022 - ]

    3. Disconnect the N41 HV battery junction block assembly connector.

    4. Disconnect the F60 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F60-16 (SMRB) and N41-1 (SMRB) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector and the HV battery junction block assembly connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    7. Turn the power switch off.
    8. Reconnect the F60 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    9. Reconnect the N41 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    10. Install the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Result

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2018 - 07/2022]  Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2022 - ]

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the appropriate service information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17 [10/2018 - 07/2022] Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17 [07/2022 - ]

    3. Disconnect the N41 HV battery junction block assembly connector.

    4. Disconnect the F60 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F60-16 (SMRB) - N41-1 (SMRB) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

    6. Reconnect the F60 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    7. Reconnect the N41 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    8. Install the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Result

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    WARNING:

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    5. Reconnect the N41 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    6. Install the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Result

  12. INSPECT HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY (SMRB) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the appropriate service information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17 [10/2018 - 07/2022] Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17 [07/2022 - ]

    3. Disconnect the N41 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      (HV Battery Junction Block Assembly)

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      N41-1 (SMRB) - N41-3 (GND) -40 to 80°C (-40 to 176°F) 25.0 to 59.0 Ω
    5. Reconnect the N41 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    6. Install the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [10/2018 - ]

    REPLACE HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2018 - 07/2022]  Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2022 - ]
