DTC P162B-87: Lost Communication with Battery Monitor Module Missing Message [10/2018 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION CONDITION 
    1. Check installation condition of the battery state sensor assembly.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    INSTALL THE BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY CORRECTLY. Refer to  INSTALLATION [10/2018 - ] 

    Result: 

    OK

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 
    1. Check that the battery state sensor assembly connector is securely connected.

      OK

      The connector is securely connected.

    2. Disconnect the battery state sensor assembly connector.
    3. Check the connector case and terminals for deformation or corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      (to Battery State Sensor Assembly)

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      N13-1 (+B) - Body ground Power switch off 11 to 14 V

      Result

      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the A46 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the N13 battery state sensor assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the C48 compressor with motor assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A46-8 (LIN3) - N13-2 (LIN) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      N13-2 (LIN), A46-8 (LIN3) or C48-3 (DOUT) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CLEAR DTCS 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    5. Check for DTCs, and note down any DTCs that are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2018 - ]

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Trouble Codes 

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    7. Clear the DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2018 - ]

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Clear DTCs 

      Result

      Proceed to
      NEXT

    Result:

  5. CLEAR DTCS (AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM) 
    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Turn the Techstream on.
    3. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check for DTCs, and note down any DTCs that are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2018 - ]

      Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Trouble Codes 

    5. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Trouble Codes.
    6. Clear the DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2018 - ]

      Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Clear DTCs 

      Result

      Proceed to

  6. CHECK FOR DTCS 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (READY) and wait for 17 minutes or more.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    5. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2018 - ]

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P162B-87 is output. A
      DTCs are not output. B

    Result: 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [10/2018 - ]

  7. CHECK FOR DTCS (AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM) 
    1. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Trouble Codes.
    2. Check for DTCs when the following conditions are met.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2018 - ]

      Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1498 is output. A
      DTCs are not output. B

    Result: 

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2018 - 07/2022]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [07/2022 - ] 

    Result: 

    REPLACE BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2018 - 07/2022]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [07/2022 - ]
