Installation [10/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSTALL REAR DISC 
    1. Align the matchmarks of the rear disc and rear axle hub and bearing assembly, and install the rear disc.
      NOTE:

      When replacing the rear disc with a new one, select the installation position where the rear disc has minimal runout.

  2. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING 
    1. Install the rear disc brake cylinder mounting to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 150 N*m (1530 kgf*cm, 111 ft.*lbf) 

  3. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE BUSHING DUST BOOT 
    1. Apply a light layer of lithium soap base glycol grease to the entire circumference of 2 new rear disc brake bushing dust boots.

      HINT: 

      Apply more than 0.3 g (0.01 oz) of lithium soap base glycol grease to each rear disc brake bushing dust boot.

    2. Install the 2 rear disc brake bushing dust boots to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  4. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE PIN

      Lithium Soap Base Glycol Grease

      Apply a light layer of lithium soap base glycol grease to the contact surface of the rear No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin.

    2. Install a new rear disc brake cylinder slide bushing to the rear No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin.

      Lithium Soap Base Glycol Grease

      Apply a light layer of lithium soap base glycol grease to the sliding part and the sealing surfaces of the rear No. 1 disc brake cylinder slide pin and rear No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin.

    4. Install the rear No. 1 disc brake cylinder slide pin and rear No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

    5. Push the rear No. 1 disc brake cylinder slide pin and rear No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin into each rear disc brake bushing dust boot to engage the pins to the boots.
  5. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE 
    1. Install the 4 rear disc brake pad support plates to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
      NOTE:

      Be sure to install each rear disc brake pad support plate in the correct position and direction.

  6. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM 
    NOTE:
    • When replacing worn rear disc brake pads, the rear disc brake anti-squeal shims and rear disc brake pad wear indicator plates must be replaced together with the rear disc brake pads.
    • Install each rear disc brake pad wear indicator plate in the correct position and direction.
    • Install the rear disc brake anti-squeal shims in the correct positions and directions.
    1. Check the rear disc brake pad.

      HINT: 

      If the rear disc brake pad has an identification mark, be sure to confirm the installation location.

    2. Install the rear No. 1 disc brake anti-squeal shim and rear No. 2 disc brake anti-squeal shim to each rear disc brake pad.

      *3 Rear Disc Brake Pad Wear Indicator Plate
      *a Claw
      NOTE:
      • Install the rear No. 1 disc brake anti-squeal shim and rear No. 2 disc brake anti-squeal shim in the correct positions and direction as shown in the illustration.
      • Install the rear No. 1 disc brake anti-squeal shim and rear No. 2 disc brake anti-squeal shim with the claws in the locations shown in the illustration to the outer side of the vehicle.
      • Install so that the claws are towards the outer side of the vehicle.
    3. Install new rear disc brake pad wear indicator plate to each rear disc brake pad.
  7. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PAD 
    1. Install the 2 rear disc brake pads to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
      NOTE:

      Install the rear disc brake pad so that the rear disc brake pad wear indicator plate is mounted on the lower side of the vehicle.

      HINT: 

      If the rear disc brake pad has an identification mark, be sure to confirm the installation location.

  8. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Hold the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins, and install the rear disc brake cylinder assembly to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting with 2 bolts.

      Torque: 34.3 N*m (350 kgf*cm, 25 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:

      If bleeding of air from the rear brake cylinder assembly will be performed, reuse the bolts. If bleeding of air from the rear brake cylinder assembly will not be performed, install new bolts.

  9. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Apply a light coat of lithium soap base glycol grease to a new O-ring.
    2. Install the O-ring to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.
      NOTE:

      Make sure to replace the O-ring with a new one when installing the parking brake actuator assembly.

    3. Using a 5 mm hexagon socket wrench, install the parking brake actuator assembly to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 8.4 N*m (86 kgf*cm, 74 in.*lbf) 

  10. CONNECT NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE WIRE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the No. 2 parking brake wire assembly connector to the parking brake actuator assembly.
  11. CONNECT REAR FLEXIBLE HOSE 
    1. Connect the rear flexible hose to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly with a new union bolt and a new gasket.

      Torque: 30.4 N*m (310 kgf*cm, 22 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:

      Install the rear flexible hose lock securely into the lock hole in the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  12. CONNECT BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP CONNECTOR 
    1. With the power switch off, connect the 2 brake booster pump connectors.
    2. Clear the DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2015 - 08/2018] , or refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2018 - 08/2019] , or refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ]

  13. BLEED BRAKE LINE 

    Refer to BLEEDING [10/2015 - 08/2018] , or refer to BLEEDING [08/2018 - ]

  14. BLEED REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY 
    WARNING:

    If the rear disc brake cylinder assembly has been disassembled, perform air bleeding for the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

    HINT: 

    • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
    • The following procedure is for the LH side.
    • While performing air bleeding of the rear disc brake cylinder assembly, the bolts can be reused during the bleeding procedure. After air bleeding is complete, replace the bolts with new ones.
    1. Perform the procedure to enter rear disc brake pad replacement mode 5 times.

      Refer to TEST MODE PROCEDURE [10/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to TEST MODE PROCEDURE [08/2019 - ]

    2. Release the parking brake.
    3. Disconnect the No. 2 parking brake wire assembly connector from the parking brake actuator assembly.

    4. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.

    5. Add brake fluid to the brake master cylinder reservoir assembly until the brake fluid level is between the MAX and MIN lines on the brake master cylinder reservoir assembly.
      NOTE:
      • Make sure that there is sufficient brake fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir assembly.
      • If brake fluid leaks onto any painted surface, immediately wash it off.
      • Do not remove the filter from the brake master cylinder reservoir assembly and be sure to fill the brake master cylinder reservoir assembly with new brake fluid to avoid any potential contamination of the brake system. Contamination, for example by dirt particles or mineral oil, could lead to functional brake problems.
    6. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3 with the power switch off.
    7. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    8. Turn the Techstream on and enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Utility / Air Bleeding.

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Utility 

      Tester Display
      Air Bleeding

      HINT: 

      Do not apply the parking brake even if instructed by the Techstream.

    9. Select "Usual air bleeding / Specific Line" on the Techstream.
      1. Hold the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins and remove the 2 bolts and separate the rear disc brake cylinder assembly from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.(*1)

      2. Hold the rear disc brake cylinder assembly horizontally, then tilt it 45° toward the bleeder plug side as shown in the illustration.(*2)

      3. Temporarily install the rear disc brake cylinder assembly to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting with the 2 bolts.(*3)
      4. Select the "RL Line" on the Techstream.(*4)
      5. Bleed the brake fluid by following the instructions on the Techstream.(*5)
        NOTE:

        Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brake lines.

    10. Repeat steps (*1) through (*5) 3 times.
      NOTE:

      If there is still air in the system after performing steps (*1) through (*5) 3 times, repeat the steps (*1) through (*5) until the air has been bled.

    11. Tighten the bleeder plug completely.

      Torque: 8.3 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf) 

    12. Hold the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins, and install the rear disc brake cylinder assembly to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting with 2 new bolts.

      Torque: 34.3 N*m (350 kgf*cm, 25 ft.*lbf) 

    13. Connect the No. 2 parking brake wire assembly connector to the parking brake actuator assembly.
    14. Clear the DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2015 - 08/2018] , or refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2018 - 08/2019] , or refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ]

    15. Turn the Techstream off and turn the power switch off.
    16. Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3.
    17. Inspect for brake fluid leaks.
    18. Inspect and adjust the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir assembly.

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [10/2015 - ]

    19. Install the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.
  15. INSTALL REAR WHEEL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1 [10/2015 - ]

  16. NORMAL CONDITION RECOVERY 

    Refer to TEST MODE PROCEDURE [10/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to TEST MODE PROCEDURE [08/2019 - ]
