Shift Paddle Switch Circuit [10/2017 - 10/2023]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SPORTS SHIFT UP SIGNAL, SPORTS SHIFT DOWN SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Sports Shift UP Signal, Sports Shift DOWN Signal.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Sports Shift UP Signal
      Sports Shift DOWN Signal
    4. Read the value displayed on the Techstream.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition
      Sports Shift UP Signal Sports shift UP signal ON or OFF ON:
      Shift paddle switch RH (+) operated
      OFF:
      Shift paddle switch RH (+) not operated

    5. Turn the power switch off.

    Result:

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY - HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the G93 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly) is moved to each position.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G93-18 (SFTU) - Body ground Shift paddle switch RH (+) operated Below 2.5 Ω
      G93-8 (SFTD) - Body ground Shift paddle switch LH (-) operated Below 2.5 Ω
      G93-18 (SFTU) - Body ground Shift paddle switch RH (+) not operated 1 MΩ or higher
      G93-8 (SFTD) - Body ground Shift paddle switch LH (-) not operated 1 MΩ or higher

    3. Reconnect the G93 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.

      Result

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2017 - 09/2018]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [09/2018 - 10/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2020 - 11/2021]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2021 - 10/2022]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2022 - 10/2023] 

    Result: 

    NG

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the G27 spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the G93 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      G27-1 (SDN) - G93-8 (SFTD) Always Below 1 Ω
      G27-2 (ECC) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G27-8 (SUP) or G93-18 (SFTU) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      G27-1 (SDN) or G93-8 (SFTD) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the G93 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    5. Reconnect the G27 spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to REMOVAL [09/2018 - 10/2020] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - 10/2022] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2022 - 10/2023]

    2. Set the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly to the center position.

      Refer to INSTALLATION [10/2017 - 10/2020] , or refer to INSTALLATION [10/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to INSTALLATION [11/2021 - 10/2023]

    3. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly according to the value(s) in the table below.
      1. After setting the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly to the center position, rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly 2.5 times clockwise and measure the resistance. Then rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly 2.5 times counterclockwise and measure the resistance.
      2. After setting the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly to the center position, rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly 2.5 times clockwise. Then while rotating the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly 5 times counterclockwise, measure the resistance.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      z5-2 (SUP) - G27-8 (SUP) Always Below 3 Ω
      z5-4 (SDN) - G27-1 (SDN) Always Below 3 Ω
      z5-3 (ECC) - G27-2 (ECC) Always Below 3 Ω
      NOTE:

      As the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly may break, do not rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly more than the specified amount.

    4. Install the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.

    REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [10/2017 - 09/2018]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [09/2018 - 10/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2020 - 11/2021]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2021 - 10/2022]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2022 - 10/2023]

  5. INSPECT SHIFT PADDLE SWITCH (TRANSMISSION SHIFT SWITCH ASSEMBLY) LH 
    1. Remove the shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly) LH.

      for 2WD:

      Refer to REMOVAL [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to REMOVAL [09/2018 - 10/2020] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2020 - 10/2022] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2022 - 10/2023]

      for AWD:

      Refer to REMOVAL [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to REMOVAL [09/2018 - 10/2020] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - 10/2022] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2022 - 10/2023]

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly) is moved to each position.

      Standard Resistance

    3. Install the shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly) LH.

    for 2WD:

    for AWD:

  6. INSPECT SHIFT PADDLE SWITCH (TRANSMISSION SHIFT SWITCH ASSEMBLY) RH 
    1. Remove the shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly) RH.

      for 2WD:

      Refer to REMOVAL [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to REMOVAL [09/2018 - 10/2020] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2020 - 10/2022] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2022 - 10/2023]

      for AWD:

      Refer to REMOVAL [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to REMOVAL [09/2018 - 10/2020] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - 10/2022] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2022 - 10/2023]

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly) is moved to each position.

      Standard Resistance

    3. Install the shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly) RH.

  7. INSPECT NO. 1 SWITCH WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the z5 No. 1 switch wire connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly) is moved to each position.
