On-Vehicle Inspection [10/2017 - ]: Procedure
- INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL IN RESERVOIR TANK
- Check that the engine coolant level is between the L line and F line when the engine is cold.
If the engine coolant level is low, check for leaks and add engine coolant to the F line.
NOTE:Do not substitute plain water for engine coolant.
*a F Line *b L Line - Remove the radiator cap sub-assembly and check that there is coolant up to the coolant filler hole.
- Install the radiator cap sub-assembly.NOTE:
When installing the radiator cap sub-assembly, apply coolant to the O-ring of the radiator cap sub-assembly.
- Check that the engine coolant level is between the L line and F line when the engine is cold.
- INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT QUALITY WARNING:
Do not remove the reserve tank cap or radiator cap sub-assembly while the engine and radiator assembly are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.
- Remove the clip.
- Detach the claw and remove the service hole cover from the lower radiator air deflector.
- Remove the reserve tank cap.
- Check if there are any excessive deposits of rust or scale around the reserve tank cap and water filler hole. Also, the engine coolant should be free of oil.
If excessively dirty, replace the engine coolant.
- Install the reserve tank cap.
- Attach the claw to install the service hole cover to the lower radiator air deflector.
- Install the clip.
- Remove the clip.
- INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK WARNING:
Do not remove the reserve tank cap or radiator cap sub-assembly while the engine and radiator assembly are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.
- Remove the upper radiator support seal.

- Remove the radiator cover plate.

- Remove the lower radiator air deflector.

- Remove the reserve tank cap.
- Fill the radiator assembly with engine coolant, and then install a radiator cap tester.
*a Radiator Cap Tester - Put the engine in inspection mode (2WD for measuring exhaust gas).
- Warm up the engine.
- Pump the radiator cap tester to 123 kPa (1.3 kgf/cm2
, 18 psi), and then check that the pressure does not drop.
- If the pressure drops, check the hoses, radiator assembly and engine water pump assembly for leaks.
- If there are no signs of external engine coolant leaks, check the heater core, cylinder block sub-assembly and cylinder head sub-assembly.
- Remove the radiator cap tester.
- Install the reserve tank cap.
- Install the lower radiator air deflector.

- Install the upper radiator support seal.

- Install the radiator cover plate.

- Remove the upper radiator support seal.
