      Grease

Molybdenum disulphide lithium base NLGI No. 2

    2. Completely remove any oil and other foreign matter and clean the contact surfaces of the transmission companion flange and flexible coupling of propeller with center bearing shaft assembly.
    3. Completely remove any oil and other foreign matter and clean the contact surfaces of the rear differential companion flange and flexible coupling of propeller with center bearing shaft assembly.
    4. Align the matchmarks on the transmission companion flange and flexible coupling of propeller with center bearing shaft assembly.
    5. Install the 3 bolts, 3 washers and 3 nuts.

      Torque: 86 N.m (877 kgf/cm, 63 ft.lbf)

      NOTE:

Be careful not to damage the flexible coupling centering bushings.

      HINT:

The bolts should be installed from the propeller intermediate shaft assembly side.

    6. Align the matchmarks on the rear differential companion flange and flexible coupling of propeller with center bearing shaft assembly.
    7. Install the 3 bolts, 3 washers and 3 nuts.

      Torque: 86 N.m (877 kgf/cm, 63 ft.lbf)

      NOTE:

Be careful not to damage the flexible coupling centering bushings.

      HINT:

The bolts should be installed from the propeller shaft assembly side.

    8. Temporarily install the 2 center No. 1 bearing bolts and 2 washers.

      HINT:

Use the washers which were removed.

  2. TIGHTEN CENTER NO. 1 SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY
    1. Adjust the distance (A) between the surface of the center No. 1 support bearing assembly and the surface of the cushion to 10.5 to 12.5 mm (0.414 to 0.492 in.) as shown in illustration.

      *a 90°

      Distance (A)

      10.5 to 12.5 mm (0.414 to 0.492 in.)

    2. Check that the center line of the bracket is at a right angle to the shaft axial direction.
    3. Tighten the 2 center No. 1 bearing bolts.

      Torque: 49.1 N.m (501 kgf/cm, 36 ft.lbf)

  3. INSPECT AND ADJUST NO. 2 AND NO. 3 JOINT ANGLE
    NOTE:

Measure the joint angle when the vehicle is raised using a four-post lift or when using a pit.

    HINT:

If any vibration or noise occurs, perform the joint angle check as follows and replace the adjusting washers with a proper one.

    1. Stabilize the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly and differential.
      1. Turn the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly several times by hand to stabilize the center support bearing.
      2. Using a jack, raise and lower the differential to stabilize the differential mounting cushion.
    2. Check the No. 2 and No. 3 joint angles.

*a No. 2 Joint Angle *b No. 3 Joint Angle
      1. Using SST, measure the installation angle of the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly (front side) and propeller with center bearing shaft assembly (rear side).
        • SST: 09370-50010

        HINT:

SST should be set directly underneath the shaft.

      2. Using SST, measure the installation angle of the differential.
        • SST: 09370-50010

        HINT:

Measure the installation angle by placing SST in the positions shown in the illustration.

      3. Calculate the No. 2 joint angle.

        No. 2 Joint Angle

Measurement Position No. 2 Joint Angle
        A-B for 2WD 0°05' +/- 30' (0.08° +/- 0.50°)
        for AWD 1°06' +/- 30' (1.10° +/- 0.50°)

A: Propeller shaft assembly (front side) installation angle

B: Propeller shaft assembly (rear side) installation angle

      4. Calculate the No. 3 joint angle.

        No. 3 Joint Angle

Measurement Position No. 3 Joint Angle
        B-C for 2WD 1°00' +/- 32' (1.00° +/- 0.53°)
        for AWD 1°13' +/- 32' (1.22° +/- 0.53°)

B: Propeller shaft assembly (rear side) installation angle

        C: Differential installation angle

If the measured angle is not within the specified range, adjust it with washers.

    3. Adjust the No. 2 and No. 3 joint angles.
      1. Select washers for adjustment.
        NOTE:
        • Make sure to use a washer of the same thickness on both the right and left sides.
        • Do not use 2 or more washers on each bolt.
