DTC B1500-13: Fuel Sender Circuit Open [12/2017 - 10/2023]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Input Fuel input Min.: 0 L, Max.: 655.35 L
      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates

        F: 80.8 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates

        3/4: 51.6 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates

        1/4: 28.8 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates

        E: 4.6 L

      Unit: Liter

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Fuel level data can be displayed on the Techstream A
      Fuel level data cannot be displayed on the Techstream B

    Result: 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2017 - 10/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2020 - 10/2023]

  2. CHECK FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY (POWER SOURCE)

    *a Component with harness connected
    (Combination Meter Assembly)
    1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      G34-37(FV) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 4.5 to 5.5 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2017 - 10/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2020 - 10/2023] 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY

    *a Component with harness connected
    (Combination Meter Assembly)
    1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      G34-36 (FR) - G34-35 (FE&B) Engine switch on (IG) 0.2 to 4.7 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2017 - 10/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2020 - 10/2023]

    NG

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL SUCTION PLATE SUB-ASSEMBLY - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the L23 fuel suction plate sub-assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the G34 combination meter assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L23-3 (FR) - G34-36 (FR) Always Below 1 Ω
      L23-2 (FE) - G34-35 (FE&B) Always Below 1 Ω
      L23-1 (FV) - G34-37 (FV) Always Below 1 Ω
      G34-36 (FR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      G34-35 (FE&B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      G34-37 (FV) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  5. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [12/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to REMOVAL [09/2018 - 10/2020] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2020 - 10/2022] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2022 - 10/2023]

    2. Inspect the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [12/2017 - ]

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2017 - 09/2018]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [09/2018 - 10/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2020 - 10/2022]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2022 - 10/2023] 

    Result: 

    OK

  6. INSPECT FUEL SUCTION PLATE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    *a Component without harness connected
    (Fuel Suction Plate Sub-assembly)
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L23-1 (FV) - A-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      L23-2 (FE) - A-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      L23-3 (FR) - A-1 Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2017 - 10/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2020 - 10/2023]

    REPLACE FUEL SUCTION PLATE SUB-ASSEMBLY. Refer to  DISASSEMBLY [12/2017 - ]
