Radio Broadcast cannot be Received or Poor Reception [03/2017 - 05/2023]: Procedure

  1. CHECK RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check the radio automatic station search function by activating it.

      OK

      Automatic station search function stops on a station.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [03/2017 - 04/2020]  , or refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [04/2020 - 05/2023] 

    Result: 

    NG

  2. CHECK OPTIONAL COMPONENTS 
    1. Check if any optional components that may decrease reception capacity, such as sunshade film or a telephone antenna, are installed.

      OK

      Optional components are not installed.

      NOTE:

      Do not remove optional components without the permission of the customer.

  3. CHECK RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Preparation for check

      1. Disconnect the RA radio receiver assembly connector.
    2. Check for noise
      1. Turn the engine switch on (ACC) with the radio receiver assembly connector connected.
      2. Turn the radio receiver assembly on and enter AM mode.
      3. Place a screwdriver, thin wire or other metal object on the radio receiver assembly antenna jack and check that noise can be heard from the speakers.

        OK

        Noise can be heard from the speakers.

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 05/2023]

  4. CHECK BACK WINDOW GLASS (WINDOW GLASS ANTENNA WIRE) 
    1. Check for continuity in the window glass antenna wire.

      *a Tester Probe
      *b Antenna Wire
      *c Tin Foil

      HINT: 

      Check for continuity at the center of each antenna wire as shown in the illustration.

      NOTE:

      When cleaning the glass, wipe it in the direction of the wire with a soft dry cloth. Take care not to damage the wire. Do not use detergents or glass cleaners with abrasive ingredients. When measuring resistance, wrap a piece of tin foil around the tip of each probe and press the foil against the wire with your finger as shown in the illustration.

      OK

      There is continuity in the window glass antenna wire.

  5. INSPECT RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the RA radio receiver assembly connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      5 (ANT+) - Body ground Engine switch on (ACC), radio switch on and FM or AM selected 11 to 14 V

      Result

      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [03/2017 - 05/2023]

  6. CHECK ANTENNA CORD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the antenna connector from the radio receiver assembly.

      (to Radio Receiver Assembly)

      (to No. 2 Antenna Cord Sub-assembly)
    2. Disconnect the antenna connector from the No. 2 antenna cord sub-assembly.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      RA-3 (MAIN) - E-6 Always Below 1 Ω
      RA-4 - E-6a Always Below 1 Ω
      RA-1 (SUB) - E-5 Always Below 1 Ω
      RA-2 - E-5a Always Below 1 Ω
      RA-5 (ANT+) - E-4 Always Below 1 Ω
      RA-3 (MAIN) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      RA-4 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      RA-1 (SUB) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      RA-2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      RA-5 (ANT+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  7. CHECK NO. 2 ANTENNA CORD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the antenna connector from the antenna cord sub-assembly.

    2. Disconnect the antenna connector from the No. 3 antenna cord sub-assembly.
    3. Disconnect the antenna connector from the No. 4 antenna cord sub-assembly.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E-6 - C-4 Always Below 1 Ω
      E-6a - C-4a Always Below 1 Ω
      E-5 - D-4 Always Below 1 Ω
      E-5a - D-4a Always Below 1 Ω
      E-4 - C-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      E-4 - D-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      E-6 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E-6a - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E-5 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  8. CHECK NO. 3 ANTENNA CORD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the antenna connector from the No. 2 antenna cord sub-assembly.

      (to Antenna with Holder Assembly RH)
    2. Disconnect the antenna connector from the antenna with holder assembly RH.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C-4 - A-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      C-4a - A-2a Always Below 1 Ω
      C-1 - A-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      C-4 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C-4a - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

  9. CHECK NO. 4 ANTENNA CORD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the antenna connector from the No. 2 antenna cord sub-assembly.

      (to No. 2 Antenna Cord Sub-assembly)

      (to Antenna with Holder Assembly LH)
    2. Disconnect the antenna connector from the antenna with holder assembly LH.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D-4 - B-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      D-4a - B-2a Always Below 1 Ω
      D-1 - B-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      D-4 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      D-4a - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      D-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

  10. CHECK ANTENNA WITH HOLDER ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Replace the antenna with holder assembly RH with a new or known good one.

      Refer to REMOVAL [03/2017 - 05/2023]

      OK

      Radio broadcasts can be received normally.
