Speedometer Malfunction [04/2013 - 09/2020]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if CAN communication DTCs are output.

      Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [04/2013 - 06/2014] , or refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [06/2014 - 08/2015] , or refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2015 - 10/2016] , or refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [10/2016 - 10/2017] , or refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [10/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [09/2018 - 09/2020]

  2. CONFIRM MODEL 
    1. Confirm the vehicle type.

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Check the operation by referring to the table below.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test

      • OFF, 0, 40, 80, 120, 160, 200, 240 km/h*1

      There is a deviation in the values displayed on the speedometer display (Control range → Speedometer)
      except F SPORT models (km/h)*1: 
      • 40 → 38.6 to 43.1
      • 80 → 79.1 to 84.1
      • 120 → 119.8 to 124.8
      • 160 → 160.6 to 165.6
      • 200 → 201.4 to 206.5

      except F SPORT models (mph)*2: 
      • 40 → 39.4 to 42.2
      • 80 → 80 to 83.2
      • 120 → 120.7 to 123.9
      • 160 → 161.5 to 164.7
      1. *1: for Speedometer with Metric Units for Main Scale
      2. *2: for Speedometer with Imperial Units for Main Scale

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test

      Speedometer indication is normal.

  4. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if vehicle stability control system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [04/2013 - 10/2016] , or refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [10/2016 - 09/2020]

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Trouble Codes

  5. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED, VEHICLE SPEED METER) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus:
      1. for ABS/VSC/TRAC: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Data List.
      2. for Combination Meter: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Check the values by referring to the table below.

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Data List

      HINT: 

      • When the Data List values of the ECUs match, an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.
      • When the Data List values of the ECUs do not match, a signal output error of the brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) or an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly is suspected.

    Result: 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [04/2013 - 10/2016]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2016 - 09/2020]

  6. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the combination meter assembly with a new or known good one.

      Refer to REMOVAL [04/2013 - 10/2016] , or refer to REMOVAL [10/2016 - 09/2020]

      The operation of the speedometer returns to normal.

    REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (SKID CONTROL ECU). Refer to  REMOVAL [04/2013 - 10/2016]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2016 - 09/2020]
