Removal [08/2020 - ]: Procedure
- DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE:
- w/ Navigation System (for HDD):
After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, be sure to wait for the time specified in the following table before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
Waiting Time before Disconnecting Cable from Negative (-) Battery Terminal
Condition Waiting Time Vehicle enrolled in safety connect system 6 minutes Vehicle not enrolled in safety connect system 1 minute - When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2019 - 08/2021] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2021 - 08/2022] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2022 - ] ).
- w/ Navigation System (for HDD):
- DRAIN ENGINE OIL
- DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

- REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY
- Remove the radiator (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] ).
- REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD
- Remove the intake manifold (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] ).
- REMOVE COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY
- Remove the cooler compressor (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2020 - ] ).
- REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP AND HOSE

- REMOVE AIR CLEANER FILTER ELEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 26
- REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12
- REMOVE AIR TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12
- REMOVE AIR SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4
- REMOVE AIR SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2)
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6
- DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE
- for Engine Room LH Side:
Disconnect the injector connector.
- Disconnect the 4 ignition coil connectors.
- Disconnect the 2 VVT sensor connectors.
- Disconnect the noise filter connector.
- Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.
- Disconnect the 2 camshaft timing oil control valve connectors.
- Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.
- Disconnect the 6 clamps.
- Disconnect the cooler compressor connector.
for Engine Room RH Side:
- Disconnect the 2 camshaft timing oil control valve connectors.
- Disconnect the 4 ignition coil connectors.
- Disconnect the injector connector.
- Disconnect the 2 VVT sensor connectors.
- Disconnect the noise filter connector.
- Remove the bolt and ground wire.
- Disconnect the 6 clamps.
- Disconnect the power steering oil pressure switch connector and solenoid valve connector.
Disconnect the wire harness clamp.
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the wire harness clamp bracket.
Remove the bolt and disconnect the clamp and engine wire.
- for Engine Room LH Side:
- REMOVE OIL FILTER ELEMENT
- REMOVE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ASSEMBLY

- REMOVE OIL FILTER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11
- DISCONNECT VANE PUMP ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY

- REMOVE NO. 4 ENGINE COVER

- REMOVE NO. 3 ENGINE COVER

- REMOVE FUEL TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the EFI fuel pipe clamp.
Remove the 2 bolts and fuel tube (Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - ] ).
- REMOVE FUEL HOSE
- Remove the EFI fuel pipe clamp.
Disconnect the clamp and remove the fuel hose (Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - ] ).
- DISCONNECT HEATER WATER HOSE
- REMOVE NO. 4 WATER BY-PASS PIPE
- REMOVE WATER BY-PASS HOSE
- REMOVE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS HOSE

- REMOVE NO. 3 WATER BY-PASS PIPE
- REMOVE NO. 3 WATER BY-PASS HOSE
- DISCONNECT NO. 8 WATER BY-PASS HOSE

- DISCONNECT NO. 5 WATER BY-PASS HOSE
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6
- REMOVE WATER INLET HOUSING
- REMOVE FRONT WATER BY-PASS JOINT
- REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8
- REMOVE NO. 1 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE FAN BRACKET ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE NO. 4 AIR TUBE
- REMOVE NO. 3 AIR TUBE
- REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY

- REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
- REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY RH
- REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
Using SST, remove the crankshaft pulley set bolt.
- SST: 09213-70011
- SST: 09330-00021
TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION*a Hold Turn - Temporarily install the pulley set bolt to the crankshaft until 2 or 3 threads are engaged.
- Using the pulley set bolt and SST, remove the crankshaft pulley.

- REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 26 bolts and nut shown in the illustration.
- Remove the timing chain cover by prying between it and the cylinder head and cylinder block with a screwdriver as shown in the illustration.TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION
Protective Tape HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
NOTE:Be careful not to damage the cylinder head, camshaft housing and cylinder block contact surfaces of the chain cover.
- Remove the gasket from the cylinder block.
Remove the O-ring from the oil pan.
- Remove the 26 bolts and nut shown in the illustration.
- REMOVE WATER INLET PIPE
- REMOVE FRONT CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL
