Installation [10/2014 - 09/2017]: Procedure
- INSTALL STEERING SENSOR
HINT:
Perform this procedure only when replacement of the spiral cable sub-assembly is necessary.
- Install the steering sensor to a new spiral cable sub-assembly.
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1
- Install the steering sensor to a new spiral cable sub-assembly.
- INSTALL SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY NOTE:
- Do not replace the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
- Do not rotate the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
- Check that the engine switch is off.
- Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.WARNING:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
- Attach the 3 claws to install the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly.
- Connect each connector.NOTE:
When connecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
- Connect the airbag connector and check that the slider is in the lock position.
*1 Slider *a Lock Position HINT:
If the slider is not in the lock position, the airbag connector is not completely connected. Disconnect the airbag connector, check the airbag connector and spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly terminals and connector housings for deformation or foreign matter, and then reconnect the airbag connector.
- INSTALL UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER
for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column:
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10
for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column:
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10
- INSTALL LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER
for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column:
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11
for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column:
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11
- PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
- ADJUST SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY NOTE:
Do not adjust the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly with the auxiliary battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).
- Check that the engine switch is off.
- Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.WARNING:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- Check the check window shown in the illustration.
HINT:
When the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly is centered, the connector is at the top and the conditions below can be checked.
*A w/o Steering Heater *B w/ Steering Heater *1 Check Window *2 Colored Roller *3 U-turn Point - w/o Steering Heater:
With the steering wheel straight ahead, the colored roller can be checked from the check window.
- w/ Steering Heater:
With the steering wheel straight ahead, the U-turn point of the cable can be checked from the check window.
- w/o Steering Heater:
- If the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly is not centered, center it.
- While pushing on the interlock indicated in the illustration, rotate the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly counterclockwise slowly by hand until it stops.NOTE:
- When rotating the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly, make sure to push on the interlock indicated in the illustration to release the interlock mechanism.
- Do not turn the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly using the airbag wire harness.
*A w/o Steering Heater *B w/ Steering Heater *1 Interlock - Rotate the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly 2.5 times clockwise from the lock position and check the check window.
*A w/o Steering Heater *B w/ Steering Heater *1 Check Window *2 Colored Roller *3 U-turn Point HINT:
- The spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to both the left and right from the center.
- When the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly is centered, the connector is at the top and the conditions below can be checked.
- w/o Steering Heater:
With the steering wheel straight ahead, the colored roller can be checked from the check window.
- w/ Steering Heater:
With the steering wheel straight ahead, the U-turn point of the cable can be checked from the check window.
If the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly cannot be centered, it is possible that the spiral cable sub-assembly is broken. Replace the spiral cable sub-assembly with a new one.
- While pushing on the interlock indicated in the illustration, rotate the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly counterclockwise slowly by hand until it stops.
- INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
Refer to INSTALLATION [10/2014 - 09/2017]
- CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
Refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2014 - 09/2017]
- PERFORM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK
- CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT
Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [10/2014 - ]
