Installation [12/2017 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSTALL REAR ENGINE OIL SEAL 
    1. Clean the oil seal retainer oil seal contact surface of the crankshaft.
    2. Apply MP grease to the lip of a new rear engine oil seal.
      NOTE:
      • Do not allow foreign matter to contact the lip of the timing chain case oil seal.
      • Do not allow MP grease to contact the dust seal.
    3. Using SST and a hammer, tap in the rear engine oil seal.

      • SST: 09223-56010 

      Oil Seal Protrusion Height

      0 to 0.5 mm (0 to 0.0197 in.)

      NOTE:
      • Do not tap the rear engine oil seal at an angle.
      • Keep the lip free of foreign matter.
  2. INSPECT DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. For 2WD:

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

    2. For AWD:

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  3. INSTALL DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, hold the crankshaft pulley.

      • SST: 09213-54015 
        1. 09213-70020
      • SST: 09330-00021 
    2. Clean the 10 bolt holes.
    3. Install the crankshaft angle sensor rotor.

      HINT: 

      Align the pin hole of the crankshaft angle sensor rotor with the pin of the crankshaft.

    4. Install the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly and rear drive plate spacer onto the crankshaft.

      HINT: 

      As the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly and the rear drive plate spacer are not reversible, be sure to install them so that they are facing in the direction shown in the illustration.

    5. Apply a few drops of adhesive to 2 or 3 threads at the tip of each of 10 new bolts.

      Adhesive

      Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent

      NOTE:

      After applying the adhesive, tighten the bolt right away.

    6. Install and uniformly tighten the 10 new bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 29.5 N*m (301 kgf*cm, 22 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:
      • Do not reuse the drive plate installation bolts.
      • Handle the drive plate installation bolts carefully. Do not scratch them or subject them to any shocks.
      • Do not start the engine for at least 1 hour after installing the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly.
    7. Mark the top of the bolts with paint.

      Up
    8. Tighten the 10 bolts 90° in the same sequence.
    9. Check that the paint marks are now at a 90° angle to the top.
  4. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSFER (for AWD) 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [12/2017 - 09/2019] , or refer to INSTALLATION [09/2019 - 10/2020] , or refer to INSTALLATION [10/2020 - ]

  5. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [12/2017 - 09/2018] , or refer to INSTALLATION [09/2018 - 09/2019] , or refer to INSTALLATION [09/2019 - 10/2020] , or refer to INSTALLATION [10/2020 - ]

  6. INSPECT FOR OIL LEAK 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15 [12/2017 - 11/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15 [11/2021 - ]
