Bleeding [12/2017 - 09/2018]: Procedure

  1. BLEED BRAKE LINE 
    1. Remove upper radiator support seal.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

    2. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.

    3. Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.

      Brake Fluid

      SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT3

      SAE J1704 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT4

      NOTE:
      • Make sure that there is sufficient brake fluid in the reservoir.
      • Do not remove the filter from the brake master cylinder reservoir assembly and be sure to fill the brake master cylinder reservoir assembly with new brake fluid to avoid any potential contamination of the brake system. Contamination, for example by dirt particles or mineral oil, could lead to functional brake problems.
    4. Loosen the bleeder plug of the front disc brake cylinder assembly RH.
    5. Repeatedly depress the brake pedal and bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the front disc brake cylinder assembly RH.
      NOTE:

      Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brake lines.

    6. After all the air in the brake fluid is completely bled out, tighten the bleeder plug while depressing the brake pedal.

      Torque: 10.8 N.m (110 kgf/cm, 96 in.lbf) 

    7. Bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the front disc brake cylinder assembly LH using the same procedure as for the RH side.
    8. Loosen the bleeder plug of the rear disc brake cylinder assembly RH.
    9. Repeatedly depress the brake pedal and bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the rear disc brake cylinder assembly RH.
      NOTE:

      Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brake lines.

    10. After all the air in the brake fluid is completely bled out, tighten the bleeder plug while depressing the brake pedal.

      Torque: 10.8 N.m (110 kgf/cm, 96 in.lbf) 

    11. Bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH using the same procedure as for the RH side.
    12. Inspect for brake fluid leaks.
    13. Inspect the brake fluid level in the reservoir.

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [12/2017 - 10/2023] 

    14. Install the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.
    15. Install upper radiator support seal.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 190

  2. BLEED BRAKE SYSTEM 
    WARNING:

    If air is bled without using the Techstream, damage or accidents may result. Therefore, always use the Techstream when bleeding air.

    NOTE:
    • To prevent brake fluid from damaging painted surfaces, cover any surrounding parts with a piece of cloth.
    • Be sure to clean your hands before bleeding the brake master cylinder sub-assembly to avoid any potential contamination of the brake system. Contamination, for example by dirt particles or mineral oil, could lead to functional brake problems.
    • In order to prevent the battery from becoming fully depleted, connect the battery charger to the battery when turning the engine switch on (IG) to charge the battery.
    • Keep the power supply connected to prevent the Techstream battery from becoming fully depleted.
    1. Remove upper radiator support seal.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

    2. Remove fender apron brace sub-assembly LH.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 24

    3. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.

    4. Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brakes.

      Brake Fluid

      SAE J1703 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT3

      SAE J1704 or FMVSS No. 116 DOT4

      NOTE:
      • Make sure that there is sufficient brake fluid in the reservoir.
      • Do not remove the filter from the brake master cylinder reservoir and be sure to fill the brake master cylinder reservoir with new brake fluid to avoid any potential contamination of the brake system. Contamination, for example by dirt particles or mineral oil, could lead to functional brake problems.
    5. Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the 2 brake lines from the brake master cylinder sub-assembly.

      NOTE:
      • Do not kink or damage the brake lines.
      • Do not allow any foreign matter such as dirt or dust to enter the brake lines from the connecting parts.
    6. Slowly depress the brake pedal and hold it.*1

    7. Cover the 2 outer holes with fingers, and release the brake pedal.*2

    8. Repeat steps *1 and *2, 3 or 4 times.
    9. Using a union nut wrench, connect the 2 brake lines to the brake master cylinder sub-assembly.

      Specified tightening torque 

      Torque: 19.5 N.m (199 kgf/cm, 14 ft.lbf) 

      NOTE:
      • Do not kink or damage the brake lines.
      • Do not allow the brake lines to twist or interfere with other parts or the vehicle body during tightening.
      • Do not allow any foreign matter such as dirt or dust to enter the brake lines from the connecting parts.

      HINT: 

      • Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

        Refer to PRECAUTION [12/2017 - 10/2020]

      • When using a union nut wrench (fulcrum length of 20 mm (0.787 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 162 mm (6.378 in.)): 17.4 N.m (177 kgf/cm, 13 ft.lbf)

    10. Loosen the bleeder plug of the front disc brake cylinder assembly RH.
    11. Repeatedly depress the brake pedal and bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the front disc brake cylinder assembly RH.
      NOTE:

      Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brake lines.

    12. After all the air in the brake fluid is completely bled out, tighten the bleeder plug while depressing the brake pedal.

      Torque: 10.8 N.m (110 kgf/cm, 96 in.lbf) 

    13. Bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the front disc brake cylinder assembly LH using the same procedure as for the RH side.
    14. Loosen the bleeder plug of the rear disc brake cylinder assembly RH.
    15. Repeatedly depress the brake pedal and bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the rear disc brake cylinder assembly RH.
      NOTE:

      Add brake fluid to keep the level between the MIN and MAX lines of the reservoir while bleeding the brake lines.

    16. After all the air in the brake fluid is completely bled out, tighten the bleeder plug while depressing the brake pedal.

      Torque: 10.8 N.m (110 kgf/cm, 96 in.lbf) 

    17. Bleed the air from the bleeder plug of the rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH using the same procedure as for the RH side.
    18. Depress the brake pedal more than 20 times with the engine switch off.
    19. Connect a battery charger to the battery to ensure that a sufficient battery charge is maintained throughout the following steps.
    20. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    21. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
      NOTE:

      Do not start the engine.

    22. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Power Source Control / Utility / Auto Power OFF Cancel.

      Body Electrical > Power Source Control > Utility 

      Tester Display
      Auto Power OFF Cancel
    23. Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Utility / Air Bleeding.

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Utility 

      Tester Display
      Air Bleeding
    24. Bleed the brake system following the instructions on the Techstream.
    25. After air bleeding, tighten each bleeder plug.

      Torque: 10.8 N.m (110 kgf/cm, 96 in.lbf) 

    26. Turn the Techstream off and turn the engine switch off.
    27. Disconnect the Techstream from the DLC3.
    28. Inspect for brake fluid leaks.
    29. Inspect the brake fluid level in the reservoir.

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [12/2017 - 10/2023] 

    30. Install the brake master cylinder reservoir filler cap assembly.
    31. Install fender apron brace sub-assembly LH

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 45

    32. Install upper radiator support seal.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 190
