Removal [04/2013 - 08/2015]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

    Refer to PRECAUTION [04/2013 - 08/2015]

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

    Refer to INITIALIZATION [04/2013 - 06/2014] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [06/2014 - 08/2015]

  3. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  4. SECURE STEERING WHEEL 
    1. Secure the steering wheel with the seat belt in order to prevent rotation.

      HINT: 

      This operation is useful to prevent damage to the spiral cable.

  5. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS 
  6. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD) 

    for 2GR-FSE: Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

    for 4GR-FSE: Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  7. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER LH (for 2WD) 

    for 2GR-FSE: Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

    for 4GR-FSE: Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  8. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER RH (for 2WD) 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  9. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE (for 2WD) 

    for 2GR-FSE: Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

    for 4GR-FSE: Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  10. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD) 

    w/ No. 2 Engine Under Cover:

    for 2GR-FSE: Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

    for 4GR-FSE: Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

  11. REMOVE FRONT UPPER NO. 2 SUSPENSION MEMBER (for 2WD) 

    for 2GR-FSE: Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 69

    for 4GR-FSE: Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 68

  12. REMOVE FRONT LOWER SUSPENSION MEMBER PROTECTOR (for 2WD) 

    for 2GR-FSE: Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 72

    for 4GR-FSE: Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 71

  13. SEPARATE STEERING SLIDING WITH SHAFT YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Loosen the bolt (A).
      NOTE:

      Do not remove the bolt (A).

    2. Remove the bolt (B).
    3. Slide the steering sliding with shaft yoke sub-assembly and put matchmarks on the steering sliding with shaft yoke sub-assembly and the power steering link assembly.

    4. Separate the steering sliding with shaft yoke sub-assembly from the power steering link assembly.
  14. SEPARATE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 
    1. Remove the bolt.

    2. Slide the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and the power steering link assembly.

    3. Separate the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the power steering link assembly.
  15. SEPARATE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH (for 2WD) 
    1. Remove the clip and nut.
    2. Install 2 spacers (SST spacer B) to the tie rod assembly LH as shown in the illustration.

      *c 1 mm (0.0394 in.) *d Molybdenum grease application area
      *e String *f Place wrench here
      • SST: 09960-20010 
        1. 09961-02060
      NOTE:

      As SST may be damaged, make sure that the clearance between the tie rod assembly LH and spacers is 1 mm (0.0394 in.) or more.

    3. Using SST, separate the tie rod assembly LH from the front lower ball joint assembly.
      • SST: 09960-20010 
        1. 09961-02010
      WARNING:

      Apply molybdenum grease to the bolt threads and the tip of SST.

      NOTE:
      • Be sure to tighten the string firmly to secure SST to the steering knuckle to prevent SST from falling off.
      • Install SST with the center nut so that A and B shown in the illustration are parallel. Otherwise, the ball joint dust cover may be damaged.
      • Be sure to place the wrench on the part indicated in the illustration.
      • Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
      • Do not damage the steering knuckle.
      • Do not damage the front disc brake dust cover.
  16. SEPARATE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH (for 2WD) 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  17. SEPARATE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH (for AWD) 
    1. Remove the clip and nut.
    2. Install 2 spacers (SST spacer B) to the tie rod assembly LH as shown in the illustration.

      • SST: 09960-20010 
        1. 09961-02060
      NOTE:
      • Make sure that SST is securely positioned on the steering knuckle spacer.
      • As SST may be damaged, make sure that the clearance between the tie rod assembly LH and spacers is 1 mm (0.0394 in.) or more.
    3. Using SST, separate the tie rod assembly LH from the steering knuckle.
      • SST: 09960-20010 
        1. 09961-02010
      WARNING:

      Apply molybdenum grease to the bolt threads and the tip of SST.

      NOTE:
      • Be sure to tighten the string firmly to secure SST to the steering knuckle to prevent SST from falling off.
      • Install SST with the center nut so that A and B shown in the illustration are parallel. Otherwise, the ball joint dust cover may be damaged.
      • Be sure to place the wrench on the part indicated in the illustration.
      • Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
      • Do not damage the steering knuckle.
      • Do not damage the front disc brake dust cover.

      If the steering knuckle spacer has come off, replace the steering knuckle with a new one.

  18. SEPARATE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH (for AWD) 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  19. REMOVE FRONT FRAME ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 

    for 2GR-FSE: Refer to REMOVAL [04/2013 - 08/2015]

    for 4GR-FSE: Refer to REMOVAL [04/2013 - 08/2015]

  20. REMOVE POWER STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Disconnect the 2 wire harness clamps and 3 connectors, and then disconnect the wire harness from the power steering link assembly.

      HINT: 

      Pull up the lock and release the lock lever to disconnect the connector which uses a lock.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 washers and 2 nuts, and then remove the power steering link assembly from the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly.

  21. REMOVE POWER STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts, and then remove the power steering link assembly from the front frame assembly.
