Removal [10/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15 [10/2015 - 09/2017], or Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15 [09/2017 - 05/2018], or Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 16 [05/2018 - ]

  2. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17 [10/2015 - 09/2017], or Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17 [09/2017 - 05/2018], or Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 18 [05/2018 - ]

  3. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID 
    1. Remove the drain plug and gasket from the automatic transmission assembly and drain the ATF.

    2. Install a new gasket and the drain plug to automatic transmission assembly.

      Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) 

  4. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts, 2 nuts and No. 1 exhaust pipe support bracket sub-assembly from the exhaust manifold sub-assembly LH (TWC: Front Catalyst), exhaust manifold sub-assembly RH (TWC: Front Catalyst) and automatic transmission assembly.

      *1 Nut

      HINT: 

      When removing the exhaust pipe bolts, hold the nuts while loosening the bolts.

  5. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 9 bolts, automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly and automatic transmission oil pan gasket from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

      NOTE:

      Some fluid will remain in the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly. Remove all of the bolts, and carefully remove the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 3 transmission oil cleaner magnets from the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly.

    3. Examine the particles in the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly.

      1. Use the removed transmission oil cleaner magnets to collect any steel chips.

        Examine the chips and particles in the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly and on the transmission oil cleaner magnets to determine what type of wear might be found in the automatic transmission assembly.

        Result

        Steel (magnetic):

        Bearing, gear and clutch plate wear

        Brass (non-magnetic):

        Bushing wear

  6. REMOVE VALVE BODY OIL STRAINER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and valve body oil strainer assembly from the transmission valve body assembly.

      NOTE:

      Be careful as some fluid will come out of the valve body oil strainer assembly.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the valve body oil strainer assembly.

  7. REMOVE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and lock plate, and disconnect the ATF temperature sensor from the transmission valve body assembly.

      *2 ATF Temperature Sensor
      *3 Oil Pressure Switch
    2. Remove the O-ring from the ATF temperature sensor.
    3. Disconnect the oil pressure switch connector.
    4. Disconnect the 9 shift solenoid valve connectors.
    5. Remove the bolt, detent spring cover and detent spring from the transmission valve body assembly.

    6. Remove the 17 bolts and transmission valve body assembly from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.

    7. Disconnect the manual valve connecting rod from the manual valve lever sub-assembly.

    8. Remove the check ball body and spring from the automatic transmission case sub-assembly.
