DTC P0195-15: Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Circuit Short to Battery or Open [07/2019 - 10/2019]: Procedure

  1. CONFIRM MODEL 
    1. Choose the model to be inspected.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    (to Engine Oil Temperature Sensor)

    HINT: 

    Make sure that the connector is properly connected. If it is not, securely connect it and check for DTCs again.

    1. Disconnect the engine oil temperature sensor connector.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C116-3 (VC) - C116-2 (GND) Power switch on (IG) 4.5 to 5.5 V
      C116-4 (TOUT) - C116-2 (GND) Power switch on (IG) 0.54 to 4.86 V
    4. Turn the power switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C116-2 (GND) - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 Ω
      C116-3 (VC) - C116-4 (TOUT) Power switch off 171 to 189 kΩ

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE OIL PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE SENSOR. Refer to  REMOVAL [07/2019 - ]

    NG

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the engine oil temperature sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C116-2 (GND) - C88-100 (EPEO) Always Below 1 Ω
      C116-4 (TOUT) - C88-123 (THEO) Always Below 1 Ω
      C116-4 (TOUT) or C88-123 (THEO) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2018 - 08/2020] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CHECK FOR OPEN IN WIRE HARNESS)

    *1 Engine Oil Temperature Sensor *2 ECM

    - -
    1. Disconnect the engine oil temperature sensor connector.
    2. Connect terminals 1 and 2 of the engine oil temperature sensor connector on the wire harness side.
    3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    5. Turn the Techstream on.
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Engine Oil Temperature Sensor.

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Engine Oil Temperature Sensor
    7. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.

      OK

      Techstream Display Specified Condition
      Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Higher than 168°C (334°F)

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2018 - 10/2019] 

    Result: 

    NG

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the engine oil temperature sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C64-1 - C88-123 (THEO) Always Below 1 Ω
      C64-2 - C88-104 (ETHE) Always Below 1 Ω
      C64-1 or C88-123 (THEO) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2018 - 08/2020] 

    Result: 

    NG
