DTC B2610-96: Tilt Position Sensor or Tilt Motor Circuit Component Internal Failure [06/2018 - ]: Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (TILT MOTOR) 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Check that the steering wheel tilts up and down.
    6. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Tilt & Telescopic / Active Test.

      Body Electrical > Tilt&Telescopic > Active Test

      Tilt Motor

      Body Electrical > Tilt&Telescopic > Active Test

      The steering wheel tilts up and down.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - TILT POSITION SENSOR (STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY)) 
    1. Disconnect the G63 multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the G75 tilt motor (steering column assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G63-13 (VCI) - G75-4 (VCI) Always Below 1 Ω
      G63-16 (TIS) - G75-5 (TIS) Always Below 1 Ω
      G63-4 (E1) -G75-6 (E1) Always Below 1 Ω
      G63-13 (VCI) or G75-4 (VCI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      G63-16 (TIS) or G75-5 (TIS) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      G63-4 (E1) or G75-6 (E1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the G63 multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      G63-1 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      G63-8 (GND2) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

  4. CHECK MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (VCI, TIS TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Reconnect the G63 multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU connector.

    2. Disconnect the G75 tilt motor (steering column assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G63-13 (VCI) - G63-4 (E1) Power switch on (IG) 8 to 14 V
      G63-16 (TIS) - G63-4 (E1) Power switch on (IG) 8 to 14 V

    REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2018 - ]

  5. CHECK TILT POSITION SENSOR (STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Reconnect the G63 multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU connector.

      (Tilt Motor (Steering Column Assembly))
    2. Reconnect the G75 tilt motor (steering column assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G75-5 (TIS) - G75-6 (E1) Steering wheel tilting up or tilting down Pulse generation
      High: 8 to 14 V
      Low: Below 1 V

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Result:

    REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2018 - ]

    REPLACE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2018 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2021]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [08/2021 - 09/2022]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [09/2022 - ] 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - AUXILIARY BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the G63 multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - TILT MOTOR (STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY)) 
    1. Disconnect the G63 multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the G75 tilt motor (steering column assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G63-7 (TIM+) - G75-1 (TIM+) Always Below 1 Ω
      G63-20 (TIM-) - G75-2 (TIM-) Always Below 1 Ω
      G63-7 (TIM+) or G75-1 (TIM+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      G63-20 (TIM-) or G75-2 (TIM-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

  9. CHECK TILT MOTOR (STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the G75 tilt motor (steering column assembly) connector.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Tilt Motor (Steering Column Assembly))
    2. Apply 12 V auxiliary battery voltage to the tilt motor (steering column assembly) connector. Then check the steering wheel tilt operation.

      OK

      Measurement Condition Specified Condition
      • 12 V auxiliary battery positive (+) lead → G75-1 (TIM+)
      • 12 V auxiliary battery negative (-) lead → G75-2 (TIM-)
      		 The steering wheel tilts up.
      • 12 V auxiliary battery positive (+) lead → G75-2 (TIM-)
      • 12 V auxiliary battery negative (-) lead → G75-1 (TIM+)
      		 The steering wheel tilts down.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2018 - ]
