Removal [11/2021 - ]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - ]

  2. SET NO. 1 CYLINDER TO TDC / COMPRESSION

  3. REMOVE NO. 1 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY LH

  4. REMOVE CHAIN TENSIONER SLIPPER LH

  5. REMOVE CHAIN VIBRATION DAMPER LH

  6. REMOVE NO. 1 CHAIN SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)

  7. REMOVE NO. 3 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY 

    See step  43

  8. REMOVE NO. 1 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY RH

  9. REMOVE CHAIN TENSIONER SLIPPER RH

  10. REMOVE CHAIN VIBRATION DAMPER RH

  11. REMOVE NO. 1 CHAIN SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2)

  12. REMOVE NO. 2 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY

  13. REMOVE OIL REFLECTOR PLATE LH

  14. REMOVE CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP (for Bank 1) 
    NOTE:

    When rotating the camshafts without the chain sub-assemblies installed, be careful to ensure that the valves do not contact the pistons. If contact occurs between the valves and pistons, damage may result.

    1. Make sure that the knock pin of each camshaft is positioned as shown in the illustration.

      *d Knock Pin
    2. Uniformly loosen and remove the 20 bolts in the order shown in the illustration.

      HINT: 

      Uniformly loosen the bolts while keeping the camshaft level.

    3. Remove the No. 2 camshaft bearing cap, 6 No. 3 camshaft bearing caps and No. 4 camshaft bearing cap.

      HINT: 

      Arrange the removed parts in such a way that they can be installed to their original locations.

  15. REMOVE NO. 3 CAMSHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the No. 3 camshaft sub-assembly from the cylinder head LH.
  16. REMOVE NO. 4 CAMSHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the No. 4 camshaft sub-assembly from the cylinder head LH.
  17. REMOVE OIL REFLECTOR PLATE RH

  18. REMOVE CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP (for Bank 2) 
    NOTE:

    2. Uniformly loosen and remove the 20 bolts in the order shown in the illustration.

      HINT: 

      Uniformly loosen the bolts while keeping the camshaft level.

    3. Remove the No. 1 camshaft bearing cap, 6 No. 3 camshaft bearing caps and No. 4 camshaft bearing cap.

      HINT: 

      Arrange the removed parts in such a way that they can be installed to their original locations.

  19. REMOVE CAMSHAFT 
    1. Remove the camshaft from the cylinder head sub-assembly.
  20. REMOVE NO. 2 CAMSHAFT 
    1. Remove the No. 2 camshaft from the cylinder head sub-assembly.
