DTC P25B3-72: Turbocharger/Supercharger Wastegate "A" Actuator Stuck Open [08/2015 - 09/2022]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P25B3-72) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P25B3-72 is output A
      DTC P25B3-72 and other DTCs are output B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than P25B3-72 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART.   2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE WASTEGATE VALVE DUTY RATIO) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Wastegate Valve Duty Ratio.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

      Tester Display
      Control the Wastegate Valve Duty Ratio
    5. Perform the Active Test. Check that the waste gate valve is operating.

      OK

      The waste gate valve is operating.

  3. INSPECT AIR BY-PASS VALVE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the air by-pass valve assembly, referring to On-vehicle Inspection for Air by-pass Valve Assembly.

    2. Inspect the air by-pass valve assembly, referring to Inspection for Air by-pass Valve Assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [08/2015 - ]

  4. INSPECT MASS AIR FLOW METER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly, referring to On-vehicle Inspection for Mass Air Flow Meter.

      Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [08/2015 - 09/2020] , or refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [09/2020 - ]

    2. Inspect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly, referring to Inspection for Mass Air Flow Meter.

      Refer to INSPECTION [08/2015 - ]

    3. Inspect the operation of the mass air flow meter sub-assembly.
      1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
      2. Start the engine.
      3. Turn the Techstream on.
      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Engine Speed, Mass Air Flow Sensor and Coolant Temperature.

        Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

        Tester Display
        Engine Speed
        Mass Air Flow Sensor
        Coolant Temperature
      5. Allow the engine to idle until Coolant Temperature reaches 75°C (167°F) or higher.
      6. Read Mass Air Flow Sensor while maintaining an engine speed of 3000 rpm.

  5. INSPECT NO. 2 TURBO PRESSURE SENSOR 
    1. Inspect the No. 2 turbo pressure sensor.

  6. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P25B3-72) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    6. Start the engine and warm it up.
    7. Turn the Techstream on.
    8. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

      Powertrain > Engine > Utility

    10. Input the DTC: P25B3-72.
    11. Check the DTC judgment result.

  8. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (POWER SOURCE OF NO. 2 TURBO PRESSURE SENSOR)

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 2 TURBO PRESSURE SENSOR - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the No. 2 turbo pressure sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

  15. REPLACE MASS AIR FLOW METER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the mass air flow meter sub-assembly.

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the mass air flow meter sub-assembly.

    2. Disconnect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    *1 Waste Gate Valve Actuator with Bracket Assembly
    1. Disconnect the vacuum hose of the waste gate valve actuator with bracket assembly.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Start the engine.
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Wastegate Valve Duty Ratio.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test

    6. When the waste gate valve is operated using the Techstream, check whether the vacuum hose of the waste gate valve actuator with bracket assembly applies suction your finger.
