DTC P026A-00: Charge Air Cooler Efficiency Below Threshold [08/2015 - 09/2022]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P026A-00) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P026A-00 is output A
      DTC P026A-00 and other DTCs are output B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than P026A-00 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2015 - 10/2016]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2016 - 10/2017]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2017 - 09/2018]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2018 - 09/2019]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2019 - 09/2020]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2020 - 11/2021]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [11/2021 - 09/2022]

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE B1S1 (TURBO)) 
    1. Remove the No. 1 turbo pressure sensor.

      HINT: 

      Do not disconnect the connector.

    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Intake Air Temperature B1S1 (Turbo).

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Intake Air Temperature B1S1 (Turbo)
    6. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Other than below A
      Difference between value of Intake Air Temperature B1S1 (Turbo) and actual ambient air temperature is 10°C (18°F) or higher B

  3. CHECK INTERCOOLER COOLING RADIATOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check for deformation and blockage of the intercooler cooling radiator assembly.

      OK

      Intercooler cooling radiator assembly does not have any deformation or blockage.

      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE INTERCOOLER COOLING RADIATOR ASSEMBLY

    OK

  4. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE INTERCOOLER WATER PUMP) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
      NOTE:

      Be sure to perform the inspection with the battery voltage at 11 V or higher.

      HINT: 

      If the battery voltage is low, the electric water pump assembly may stop operating.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Intercooler Water Pump / Data List / Intercooler Water Pump Speed.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

      Active Test Display
      Control the Intercooler Water Pump
      Data List Display
      Intercooler Water Pump Speed
    5. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List while the Active Test "Control the Intercooler Water Pump" is set to 85%.

      Result

      Techstream Operation Intercooler Water Pump Speed Proceed to
      85% 4000 rpm or less A
      7000 rpm or higher B
      Other than above C

    Result: 

    REPLACE ELECTRIC WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]

  5. CHECK COOLANT LEVEL AT RESERVOIR 
    1. Check the coolant (for intercooler) level.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      At or below reservoir tank LOW level A
      At or above reservoir tank LOW level B

    Result: 

    REPLACE ELECTRIC WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]

  6. CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAK 
    1. Check the turbocharger and intercooler cooling system for coolant leaks.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

      OK

      No leaks in turbocharger and intercooler cooling system.

      Result

      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    ADD COOLANT. Refer to  REPLACEMENT [08/2015 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR COOLANT LEAK 

  7. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P026A-00) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    6. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    7. Turn the Techstream on.
    8. Start the engine and warm it up.
    9. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes / Pending.
    11. Read the pending DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output A
      DTC P026A-00 is output B

    Result:

  8. INSPECT NO. 1 TURBO PRESSURE SENSOR (INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR) 
    1. Inspect the No. 1 turbo pressure sensor (intake air temperature sensor).

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

      Result

      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE NO. 1 TURBO PRESSURE SENSOR. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 1

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 1 TURBO PRESSURE SENSOR - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the No. 1 turbo pressure sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F100-4 (THIM) - F78-107 (THIM) Always Below 1 Ω
      F100-2 (E2) - F78-137 (EPIM) Always Below 1 Ω
      F100-4 (THIM) or F78-107 (THIM) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ]
