  1. INSPECT STATOR SHAFT SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY
    1. Using a vernier caliper and straightedge, measure the distance between the end of the spring of the stator shaft spring sub-assembly and the straightedge.

      Standard Distance

      6.52 mm (0.257 in.)

If the distance is more than specified, replace the stator shaft spring sub-assembly.

  2. INSPECT FRONT OIL PUMP BODY SUB-ASSEMBLY
    1. Using a caliper gauge, measure the inside diameter of the front oil pump body sub-assembly bushing.

      Maximum Inside Diameter

      41.173 mm (1.62 in.)

If the inside diameter is more than the maximum, replace the front oil pump body sub-assembly.

  3. INSPECT STATOR SHAFT ASSEMBLY
    1. Using a caliper gauge, measure the inside diameter of the stator shaft assembly bushing.

      Maximum Inside Diameter (Front Side)

      21.527 mm (0.848 in.)

      Maximum Inside Diameter (Rear Side)

      35.251 mm (1.39 in.)

If the inside diameter is more than the maximum, replace the stator shaft assembly.

  4. INSPECT OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY CLEARANCE
    1. Push the front oil pump driven gear to one side of the front oil pump body sub-assembly.

    2. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the front oil pump driven gear and front oil pump body sub-assembly.

      Standard Clearance

      0.10 to 0.17 mm (0.00394 to 0.00669 in.)

If the clearance is not as specified, replace the front oil pump drive gear, front oil pump driven gear and front oil pump body sub-assembly.

    3. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the front oil pump driven gear teeth and front oil pump drive gear teeth.

      Standard Tip Clearance

      0.07 to 0.15 mm (0.00276 to 0.00590 in.)

If the tip clearance is not as specified, replace the front oil pump drive gear, front oil pump driven gear and front oil pump body sub-assembly.

    4. Using a straightedge and feeler gauge, measure the side clearance of both gears.

      Standard Side Clearance

      0.025 to 0.045 mm (0.000985 to 0.00177 in.)

If the side clearance is not as specified, replace the front oil pump drive gear, front oil pump driven gear and front oil pump body sub-assembly.

      HINT:

There are 7 front oil pump drive gears and front oil pump driven gears of different thicknesses.

Front oil pump drive gear thickness

      11.412 to 11.418 mm (0.4493 to 0.4495 in.)

Front oil pump driven gear thickness

      11.412 to 11.418 mm (0.4493 to 0.4495 in.)

  5. INSPECT FRONT OIL PUMP DRIVE GEAR ROTATION

    1. Install the oil pump assembly to the torque converter assembly.
    2. Check that the front oil pump drive gear rotates smoothly.
    3. Remove the oil pump assembly from the torque converter assembly.
